I am ingenious, rambunctious, and working on it.
My Self-Summary
First, a note: If you think I am neat, and want to message me,
all power to you, but you need to be poly. I'm not interested in
replacing my boyfriend, so monogamous ladies and gentlemen will
just have to struggle on without me.
Ok, now on to meat and potatoes.
This is the part where you summarily pass judgment on me based
solely on my entertainment value.
I'm entertaining. You'll like me. Just accept it.
I tend to be fairly quiet, but quite clever. There's nothing better
than that shell-shocked look on someones face when you interject a
comment that is clever, unexpected, and fully developed. It's worth
waiting for.
I'm somewhat arrogant. I think I'm awesome, and generally people
agree with me. I also am that rare female... I like how I look.
I've never dieted, I don't plan to, as food is way too delicious to
get all uptight about. It's like getting self-conscious about sex.
You'll never have an orgasm if you are worrying about it.
Generally, when I have work, it's in a bookstore, because I can't
stand sitting down all day. I make a living telling people what to
read. Also climbing stairs and lifting stacks of books. My best is
21 hardbacks. That's all the space there is between my chin and the
ends of my arms.
I've stopped making plans. I used to know where my life was going,
what I wanted out of it, and how to get there. I had a 12 step
plan. Now I have no idea, but I'm comfortable in my
uncertainty.
While not exactly bitter toward religion, I am not a fan of it
either. Why close off whole realms of experience just because some
ancient civilization had to ensure the continuation of the
species?
I recently moved to Boston, as I really disliked CA. Yes, it has
good weather. I admit that. However, it's expensive and I don't
like the culture.
At least I can be where it's expensive with tolerable people
around.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently out of work, so filling out applications 'til my fingers
bleed, of course. What else does one do post-college when the
economy sucks?
I dance quite a bit, swing, contra, a little blues, a little salsa,
a little ballroom, pretty much anything except line dance and
square dance. I paint and create things in illustrator and
photoshop.
I’m really good at
photoshop and
illustrator,
painting,
drawing,
sculpture, making people
laugh,
cooking and
other domestic activities,
reading (and boy do I do a lot of it!),
making up god-awful jokes and/or the most random stories you have
ever heard, and drawing connections across seemingly unrelated
incidents/objects.
The first things people usually notice about me
my hair. definitely the first thing people notice. It's bright,
it's red, it's hard to miss.
Another thing. I am frequently asked if I'm European. A trip to
England at the age of 16 (which hardly constitutes "Europe")
doesn't really count, in my opinion. Perhaps my apparent
European-ness can be explained by the vast vocabulary I have
amassed, or my peculiar lack of swear-words other than the
occasional "bloody hell." Or, perhaps it is explained by my
combination of pale skin/blue eyes/red hair. I don't know. But in
any case, though my ancestry is entirely European, I am definitely
not.
I doubt any of you lovely people reading this profile needed to
know quite so much about that particular topic...
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
books - anything by
Mercedes Lackey or
Tamora Pierce,
"
War for the
Oaks",
Jane
Austin, anything by
Luis McMaster Bujold,
Spider
Robinson (particularly the Callahan series),
Hitchiker's Guide,
Neil Gaiman
American
Gods rocked my socks, and
Good Omens made me laugh so hard I
cried,
John
Dalmas, particularly
The Regiment. I love odd memoirs
about people who aren't famous, or are only a little famous, like
"
The Glass
Castle", or funny ones, like "
The
Idiot Girl's Action-Adventure Club". I recently read a book on
the psychology of sexual fantasy called
Who's Been
Sleeping in Your Head?. I also like children's books such as
"
Don't Let the
Pigeon Stay Up Late", "
Cloudy With a
Chance of Meatballs", the original
Eloise books, and "
Where the Wild Things
Are".
Movies - I am a huge geek. I love me some sci-fi. Basically, if it
has one or more car chases, fun special effects, large explosions,
ridiculously unrealistic sex scenes, aliens, or space ships, I'll
like it. Movies I like include: anything
Miazaki,
Amelie,
5th Element (which is my favorite
movie ever and which I have seen 20+ times...the Big Bad is a GIANT
EVIL MOON!!! Whats not to love?!),
First Contact,
The Thirteenth Floor,
Garden
State,
10 things I hate about
you,
Mr. and Mrs. Smith,
The
Transporter,
Boondock Saints, Any of the
Blade movies,
Chocolat,
Nicholas
Nickleby,
Pride and Prejudice,
Gattica,
Tim Burton movies
(though I will admit, he always makes the same movie, just with
different characters.)
Dark City,
Dune(both versions)...I also have a close
friendship with the Disney from my childhood (
little mermaid, etc.).
Pixar and I are good
buddies.
TV - When I do watch tv it is usually
Castle,
Burn Notice,
White Collar,
West Wing,
Discovery Channel,
Animal Planet,
History
Channel or
TruTv
(the forensic science channel).
Music -
The
Postal Service,
Mae,
Snow Patrol,
hellogoodbye,
Juanes,
Gomez, The Ting Tings],
Guster,
classical,
Garbage,
Vienna Teng,
Tori Amos,
M.I.A. right now I'm listening to
Metric a lot. I
will also probably like anything else with a tune that I happen to
be introduced to, other than tuneless screaming (different from
tuneful screaming)... Which I don't particularly like.
Food - anything served on thanksgiving, Cherries Jubilee icecream,
roast beef, Steak (med. rare), pasta, lasagna, peanut-butter and
jelly sandwiches on wheat bread with a big glass of milk
(problematic, as I am lactose intolerant), french cut green beans,
peas, mashed potatoes, spinach, I also will try just about any
country's food once, within reason. I have no interest in eating
bugs, jellyfish, or anything prepared in lye.
The six things I could never do without
fun people, my family, knowing, books, music,
Tea ...we're talking 7-10 cups a day, here...I really need my tea.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the future, my family, money (I'm a poor 26 year old living in a
ridiculously expensive area, what do you expect?), the world, stuff
I read in books, nothing.
On a typical Friday night I am
relaxing after a busy week, maybe out with friends, seeing a movie,
swing, blues, or salsa dancing, at a goth club, reading a book,
doing stuff in illustrator, painting a picture, or watching people
do karaoke.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I am decisive in relationships, both on entrance and exit. This can
cause problems, as I come off as flighty and changeable.
I'm allergic to eggplant and also to pot.
I can only watch about 2 hours of TV in a given 24 hour period.
Then I get bored and want to go do something else. (This my
boyfriend finds quite difficult to understand. I find sitting on my
butt for hours at a time difficult to understand.)
You should message me if
You like art, museums, or wandering around (in the city or on
hikes). You have a low bullshit tolerance and a high
self-confidence level. A little geekiness wouldn't hurt, either.
