My self-summary
I think I was born to be a wide-eyed visionary poet anarchist, but I've adapted to my environment by becoming a pragmatic realist. I spent my 20s with too much career focus. My early 30s involved big moves and changes. Now I'm someone who has worked hard for stability and has a gut-level distrust of excessive order, who focuses most of his energy on job and security and consistently votes Libertarian in every election. I am a raging liberal in the real/classical sense of the word...the weirder things get, the happier I am...but I dress pretty square.

I also have a dry and irreverent sense of humor, a tendency to relentless logic, a love of adventures and travel, and a blithe disregard of my own comfort when pursuing my goals.

Oh, and I'm prone to verbose writing.
What I’m doing with my life
I am trying to travel more...went to Alaska last year which was awesome. Just bought an old fixer-upper (100+ year old) house which is going to take a bit of my time... my mom gave me a bunch of "heirloom" vegetable seeds for planting a garden, which is strange since I've never gardened. Maybe it is a hint of some sort. I learned to scuba dive recently and want to do more of that.
I’m really good at
Software engineering :-)

OK, not job related...probably writing. I'm actually more of a generalist by nature though. I can play a guitar, cook a meal, photograph a landscape, sail a boat, build a bookcase, etc., all with good results, but I wouldn't say I'm really good at any of those things.
The first things people usually notice about me
My shoes? At least when I wear my Vibram Five Fingers.

I'd like to think it's my ideas and how I communicate them. In reality it's probably my lack of fashion sense.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: A big swath of the sci-fi genre for books. Iain M. Banks' Culture and Gene Wolfe's New Sun books are great but I can be just as happy reading nominally young adult titles like Phillip Pullman's Golden Compass series. I also accumulate technical and specialized reference books.

TV: I'm not a regular TV watcher (as in I don't own one at the moment) but I've seen every episode of: Buffy, Futurama, South Park, The Simpsons up to about season 20, and Firefly. As a kid I watched hours and hours of NOVA and similar. I don't have anything against TV, per se, but I'd rather read or go out and do something.

Movies: I still like Fight Club but 12 Monkeys and Being John Malkovich are good runners up. I like horror-comedy more than outright horror.

Music...there isn't enough room on this page.

As for food I like it spicy and real (natural vegetables, natural meat). I'm on a big no-fake-food kick right now and it's amazing how much better life is this way (as in I'm losing weight/feeling better).
The six things I could never do without
New experiences/adventures, challenges, a musical instrument (guitar for preference), some way of writing, something to read, and freedom.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything. Mainly how to make things better.
