My self-summary
Born and raised in central New Jersey. Undergrad in eastern Pennsylvania studying computer science. Discovered late in college that I actually loved music history but elected to graduate on time rather than switch or double major.

Worked 3 years in a high travel job in information security in Philadelphia before deciding to take the plunge back into music school. Studied composition at a conservatory in Princeton, but also got hooked on audio tech prompting a move to NYC to pursue a Masters in music technology.

In the future, I hope to be involved with producing and curating new music concerts and to stay involved in academia in audio technology and game studies. I'm often tempted to take up a side job writing about game audio and its influence on narrative technique in electronic games.
What I’m doing with my life
Many jobs, many hats:

I'm finishing my Masters thesis producing an album of the vocal works of Paul Hindemith.

I'm a concert recording and live sound engineer at a experimental music venue in Brooklyn, location recording engineer for several new [classsical] music ensembles around NYC, and audio editor for a children's book publisher.

I sing in two ensembles, and like creating music and indie electronic games as a diversion from work.
I’m really good at
Bar trivia - I apparently have a mind like a sponge for snarky Gawker headlines.

Sight singing - "Audiating" is when you can look at a musical score and hear the music in your head. I've been singing [classical stuff] most of my life and can dry read just about anything: even the torturous, chromatic, experimental stuff. A fun skill to have, yet not the easiest skill to show off at a cocktail party.

Accents - I haven't done live theater for almost 10 years but put a couple drinks in me and I might want to start speaking in one.
The first things people usually notice about me
Is this section for people that don't upload pictures?

My hair is definitely not thinning. The grays are coming in, but I wouldn't have a problem with turning into a Slattery or Cooper. I think my eyes are green but there's been argument. I've been singing my whole life; I speak in the baritone range but if you really get a good laugh out of me, my guffaws are pure tenor.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Roald Dahl is an old favorite. I devour Oliver Sacks and Dan Levitin's books on the neuroscience of music. Alex Ross' "The Rest is Noise" is one I recommend to friends that want a crash course on modern classical music. I unabashedly enjoy the occasion comic book, be it highbrow (Watchmen) or lowbrow (Scott Pilgrim)

Film: I have a soft spot for movies that place high emphasis on cinematography (Scorcese, Kubrick, Pixar, Children of Men), feature entertaining banter (The Big Lebowski, Tarantino), or incorporate themes of nonhuman spirits and robots learning about humanity (The Iron Giant, any Miyazaki film).

TV: I really do think that The Wire is the greatest episodic drama ever. Current favorites are Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Community, The League, and Parks and Rec. Don't worry, I've seen Arrested Development, any references will not go unnoticed.

Food: Banh mi, falafel, eel sushi, kamo ramen, collard greens, carnitas burritos, soup dumplings.

Drink: Coffee (milk & 1 Splenda), Bombay Sapphire gimlet, Maker's Mark neat, Sixpoint The Crisp.

Music: I listen to everything. My top tier of interests include contemporary classical (Steve Reich, John Adams), classical classical (Bach, Mahler, Elgar), UK house (Basement Jaxx, Calvin Harris, Moloko), liquid funk D&B (Danny Byrd, London Elektricity), glitch (Richard D. James, Squarepusher, Telefon Tel Aviv), and 70's R&B (Chaka Khan, Zapp). That said, I listen to nearly everything else from roots bluegrass to top 40 to hip-hop. By this point in the profile, you might have surmised that I'm kind of into music.
The six things I could never do without

I spend a lot of time thinking about
where this trend of women wearing false mustaches came from.

(I prefer the term false mustaches because I can't not hear it said in a British accent)
On a typical Friday night I am
Most likely somewhere on the gamut between a dirty Williamsburg basement show and a Lincoln Center concert hall.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a geeky side.

I judge people with Beats headphones because they either care only about fashion and trendiness, or don't care to do any research before dropping $300 on a pair of awful-sounding cans.

You should message me if
...you don't want to be strangers.
...you live in NYC.
...your profile includes information more definitive than a love for your local park, your friends, food, laughter, and top 40 pop.

We'll probably connect best if you enjoy some kind of creative pursuit (not necessarily as a career), are intellectually active, and don't believe that everything happens for a reason.
