Books: Roald Dahl is an old favorite. I devour Oliver Sacks and Dan
Levitin's books on the neuroscience of music. Alex Ross' "The Rest
is Noise" is one I recommend to friends that want a crash course on
modern classical music. I unabashedly enjoy the occasion comic
book, be it highbrow (Watchmen) or lowbrow (Scott
Pilgrim)
Film: I have a soft spot for movies that place high emphasis on
cinematography (Scorcese, Kubrick, Pixar, Children of
Men), feature entertaining banter (The Big Lebowski,
Tarantino), or incorporate themes of nonhuman spirits and robots
learning about humanity (The Iron Giant, any Miyazaki
film).
TV: I really do think that The Wire is the greatest episodic drama
ever. Current favorites are Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Community,
The League, and Parks and Rec. Don't worry, I've seen Arrested
Development, any references will not go unnoticed.
Food: Banh mi, falafel, eel sushi, kamo ramen, collard greens,
carnitas burritos, soup dumplings.
Drink: Coffee (milk & 1 Splenda), Bombay Sapphire gimlet,
Maker's Mark neat, Sixpoint The Crisp.
Music: I listen to everything. My top tier of interests include
contemporary classical (Steve Reich, John Adams), classical
classical (Bach, Mahler, Elgar), UK house (Basement Jaxx, Calvin
Harris, Moloko), liquid funk D&B (Danny Byrd, London
Elektricity), glitch (Richard D. James, Squarepusher, Telefon Tel
Aviv), and 70's R&B (Chaka Khan, Zapp). That said, I listen to
nearly everything else from roots bluegrass to top 40 to hip-hop.
By this point in the profile, you might have surmised that I'm kind
of into music.
