My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
A birthday or so ago I was going on a run and on the way back I decided to take a walk alongside a river in town. It was a pretty nice day and I was feeling pretty confident, so I decided to try to cross the river via some rocks that went across it (I like to live dangerously).

I fell in the river.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
After college, I took a 2 year hiatus to teach English to the adorable children of northern, rural Japan. It was ridiculous and great, but there is only so much snow shoveling and rice fields I can stand, so back to Gville I went.

Nowadays, I'm getting my Master's in (school) counseling, but I'm trying to not let grad school eat up all my life. I also spend a lotta time playing roller derby, and if I start talking about it too much, you can tell me to shut up. At the end of the day, though, spending time with people I care about/enjoy is more important than what activity I'm doing.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Riding my bike with no handlebars.
Planning trips (if you ever want to visit Japan, I can help you out a bunch!)
Falling asleep in loud and public places.
Entertaining Japanese children.
Skating backwards.
Putting myself in uncomfortable situations.
Making sangria and Italian meatballs from scratch.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have reason to believe I suffer from this
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Books: The World According to Garp, Never Let Me Go, The Namesake. Anything by Murakami or Nick Hornby are generally good go-to's if I'm in a rut.
Series: A Song of Ice and Fire, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Harry Potter, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Movies: Amelie, Spirited Away, Before Sunrise/Before Sunset/Before Midnight, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, mostly anything with good dialogue

TV: Broad City, Bob's Burgers, The L Word, Orange is the New Black, Wilfred, Louie, Parks and Rec, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Freaks and Geeks, The Office, The X Files, Seinfeld, Gilmore Girls, etc.... I recently started watching Black Mirror and it is the most disturbing/thought provoking thing I've seen in a while.

Podcasts: Comedy Bang Bang!, Pop Culture Happy Hour, How Did This Get Made?, Car Talk, Totally Laime, Totally Beverages and Sometimes Hot Sauce (I enjoy this one probably more than I should), currently going through Serial withdrawals (are SK and Adnan still besties? What about the Nisha call?)

Music: My musical habits are slow to change. More often than not I listen to stuff like Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Tegan and Sara, Grizzly Bear, The Black Keys, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Decemberists, Regina Spektor, The Cool Kids, Santigold, etc... Like many 20-something white girls, I have an affinity for early 90s hip hop. This has been song du jour lately.

Food: I will try anything once, even this. But I love anything spicy and flavorful and will always have a soft spot for some homemade spaghetti and meatballs.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Someone to shoot the shit with
Something (Show, Movie, Book, etc) to lose myself in
Good beer or okay-wine or a caffeinated beverage
Something meaningful to do with my time
A sense of humor
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Friends and strangers - I enjoy people watching.
What kind of filters I'm putting up and how they affect my perceptions/interactions.
How can I have more honest conversations with people?
How culture/nationality influences identity.
Equality, or the lack thereof, especially in education.
Future plans/past experiences.
Hypothetical situations/conversations that will probably never happen.
What I should be doing.
Why did I say that dumb thing that I said?
Where can I get more Tim Tams?
Let's be honest, food.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Contemplating existential crises over a beer or something. Hitting up the wine sample at Trader Joe's is not out of the question.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I once went on a road trip with someone I met on the internet and nobody got hurt.
