My self-summary
The other day I was going on a run and on the way back I decided to take a walk alongside a river in town. It was a pretty nice day and I was feeling pretty confident, so I decided to try to cross the river via some rocks that went across it (I like to live dangerously).

I fell in the river.
What I’m doing with my life
I've spent the past 2 years teaching English to elementary and junior high kids in northern rural Japan. It's been a crazy great adventure, but it's time to move on.

I've been back in Gainesville since August to pursue my Master's in Counselor ed/school counseling. Grad school can be a pretty insular world, so I try to keep myself busy with non-school related things and just trying to meet new people. I also recently started a pretty fun part-time job teaching international students again.
I’m really good at
Planning trips (if you ever want to visit Japan, I can help you out a bunch!)
Falling asleep in loud and public places.
Entertaining Japanese children.
Putting myself in uncomfortable situations and adapting to them.
Making sangria and Italian meatballs from scratch.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have reason to believe I suffer from this
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The World According to Garp, Never Let Me Go, The Namesake
Series: A Song of Ice and Fire, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Harry Potter, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Movies: Amelie, Spirited Away, Before Sunrise/Before Sunset/Before Midnight, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, most things by Judd Apatow and mostly anything with good dialogue

TV: The L Word, Orange is the New Black, Wilfred, Louie, Parks and Rec, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Broad City, Freaks and Geeks, The Office, The X Files, Seinfeld, Gilmore Girls

Podcasts: Comedy Bang Bang!, Pop Culture Happy Hour, How Did This Get Made?, Car Talk, Totally Laime

Music: My musical habits are slow to change. More often than not I listen to stuff like Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Tegan and Sara, Grizzly Bear, The Black Keys, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Decemberists, Regina Spektor, The Cool Kids, Santigold, etc... Like most 20-something white girls, I have an affinity for early 90s hip hop. This has been song du jour lately.

Food: All you need to know is I will try anything once, even this. But I love anything spicy and flavorful and will always have a soft spot for some homemade spaghetti and meatballs.
