I like the adventure of experiencing something new. I love to learn about who people really are. That includes their culture, language, and life they live. I used to be a history teacher in a public high school and I always emphasized a person's background and environment when speaking about historical figures.
I taught for a year in an economically challenged environment in a school fraught with drugs, guns and other problems. It was a very difficult job but I'm glad I did it. Some days I would come home stressed and ready to quit, others I would be really proud of myself and the students. If you meet me, ask me to tell you some of the crazy stories I have from that time.
Chess is one of my two arts. I didn't get into the game until my early twenties but I quickly found out how deep it actually is. I found chess full of emotion and life. It is hard to describe the feelings behind each move in a game and, as I studied it more, chess became a fluid dynamic which connected two people through its challenge.
Music helps me focus and I listen to it all day while I work. The type of sound I'm into can be heard by listening to artists such as Shlohmo, Ochre, Wax Tailor, Purity Ring, Tycho, Ludique, John Hoppkins, Hidden Orchestra, Galimatias, Burial, Cashmere Cat, Amon Tobin, and Phantogram. Huge bonus points if you know who any of those groups are!
Anyway, I have a lot of interests and I enjoy learning about the interests of others. Feel free to say hello.
