I am driven, optimistic, and intellectual.

My Self-Summary

I am in the middle of great upheaval in my life and have to rewrite this. Mind you, all this change has been change for the good. I had been living in France doing research for my PhD. Now I will be working. Actually I will be writing my dissertation AND working.

What I’m doing with my life

I am new to Ohio - I am originally from Maryland but have lived around the world most recently in Strasbourg, France and before that in Chicago. I am working on my PhD in European history but have just got a job! In Ohio!

Besides working and writing I suppose my main activity is training my dog. Good thing he is adorable because he is a real handful. A work in progress.

I’m really good at

Fortunately I am good at languages. I speak English (hopefully that is apparent) and French. I am now working on improving my German and Alsatian.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm tall?

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I have certainly read more than my fair share of books. I am rather partial to nineteenth century literature, but at this point will gladly read fiction of all sorts. Most recently I have read "L'Ami Fritz" which seems essential to understanding Alsatian popular culture. And before that I read "David Copperfield."

Skipping to food - I have to say that I take great enjoyment in food, without being any kind of a snob about it. I will try just about anything. I also enjoy cooking when the spirit moves me. (the spirit moves me at rather irregular intervals).

The six things I could never do without

My dog, my laptop, my passport, books, clothes, food. To be more precise, I could do without these things for certain periods of time but could not completely renounce.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Alsatian folk costume - some would say too much time. In the interest of getting my dissertation done, it could be argued that I do not think about this enough.

On a typical Friday night I am

At home recovering from the week.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I am afraid I am going to have to leave this blank. Not because I refuse to disclose anything so much as I can't think of anything that walks the right line of being revealing, personal, yet endearing. You hardly want to know something gross yet because you don't really know me if I choose the wrong detail, it could possibly give you a distorted impression.

Hmmm... well that definitely isn't blank, but it isn't a private thing about me.

You should message me if

you find any of this interesting, curious, intriguing, provocative, or aw shucks, you just want to.
