My self-summary
I actively go after great new activities, moments and experiences. If I don't find one I try to create it myself, and of course a shared experience is often a better one!

I am an chronic information junkie, as much in things like culture, music, literature, technology, science as in the subtleties of human interaction. Does the term '360-degree geek' exist? Because it should. Fuck it, I hereby declare it does :)

Travelling is almost too obvious to mention here, but, yes, I love it, though I suck at planning and am very much a 'winging it' improvising-on-the-spot kind of person. I've found each unexpected setback tends to come with benefits - the most interesting people you meet are sometimes those who missed the same flight as you.

I love talking and I love listening, both provide opportunity for learning - if it's in a foreign language all the better, might as well pick up on some gems along the way. Language tends to say a lot about the culture; from German's knack for capturing entire paragraphs in one word (fav of the moment: backpfeifengesicht!) to Italian's way you almost have to sing it, however mundane the message. Bellissimo!

I rarely take something serious, least of all myself, and I think one of my biggest turnoffs would be taking yourself or the world too seriously, with self-pitty being the worst offender. Life's just too short. On the other hand, I am instantly attracted by passion and people that have accomplished something great. In my opinion, if not love than at least infatuation, has 'admiration' as a really big component.
What I’m doing with my life
Having a blast! As they say, only boring people get bored.

More concretely: constantly getting into new projects / interests and getting crazily excited about them only to completely abandon them a little later for the next one. I can make you an origami crane bird, flirt in (as I like to hope, endearingly) broken Spanish, build a web site or play you a song on piano to provOOOH I WONDER IF YOU CAN MELT GUMMY BEARS TOGETHER

(UPDATE: tried melting the gummybears, on an Okcupid date no less: the answer is yes, but it looks kinda gross)
I’m really good at
Seeing the silliness of a situation, or of life for that matter.

Entertaining a group, or in general connecting people. I'm like a walking talking Nokia ;) It's always a delight to see two totally 'independent' friends click when they first meet, if only to confirm that I consistently choose my friends for who they are rather than any specific circumstance, class, background or whatever.

Adapting to circumstances, if I am to believe two fantastic experiences of living abroad.

Improvising a song accompaniment on piano.

I make a mean mojito royale.
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't know how to behave appropriately 'reserved' with people I just met. And to be honest I like it that way, protocol is for politicians.

Some people call me too direct and lacking tact. That is probably because they are whiny cunts that cannot take a joke.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
THE SHORT VERSION: everything - I seem to lack any kind of 'filter' - and also pizza.

===
Books: my favorite changes constantly so here's just some cherry picks:
Victor Hugo - Les Miserables
Michael Cordy - The Micracle Strain
Stephen Hunter - Shooter
Maggey Furey - Aurian series
Aldous Huxley - Brave New World (by far the most popular book on okc it seems!)
Nabokov - Lolita
Jane Austen - pride & prejudice
Orson Scott Card - Ender's Game (and its sequel)
Tom Sharpe - Wilt (made me really laugh out loud a lot)
Umberto Eco - The name of the rose (this one too, strangely, during the trial scene)
Jonathan Swift - Gulliver's travels
Orson Scott Card - Ender's Game
Victor Hugo - Les Miserables
Dostoyevsky - Crime and Punishment
Emile Zola - Therese Raquin (haunting!)
Dean Koontz - Watchers
Isaac Asimov - Foundation Series
Suzanne Collins - Hunger Games trilogy
Isabel Alliende - La casa de los espiritus
Khaled Hosseini - A Thousand Splendid Suns
Grew up addicted to everything by Antony Horowitz
Richard Dawkins - The Selfish Gene and The God Delusion
Jared Diamond - Guns, Germs and Steel

Series:
Coupling
Californication
Scrubs
Series are dangerous to me; if I get caught up in one (and I have often), I totally neglect annoying details like food, sleep and social contact until I've seen every episode.

Movies:
Cidade de Deus.
Trainspotting.
Groundhog Day.
Les miserables.
In Bruges.
Mr. Jones. (I relate quite strongly to Gere's character.)
I hate Star Wars.

Music:
Bob Dylan, more and more these days.
Also, The Beatles of course, Oasis, Blur, Kasabian, Stereophonics, The Verve, The Cure, The Strokes, Athlete, Beach Boys, Johnny Cash, JS Bach (check out BWV 1043!), Norah Jones, dEUS ...

Shows: Les Miserables, The Shape Of Things

Food: big point of improvement here. however refined the dish you serve me is, it won't top a pizza in my book. So sue me. Tiramisu or chocolate mousse (or even better 'moelleux'!) for dessert please.
The six things I could never do without
Humor, beauty in art and nature, reading, my friends, sex, learning new things.

Fun game to make reading okcupid profiles less boring: try to imagine an activity involving each of their 'six things' at the same time :) (hard-core modus: also include yours)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I often find myself narrating what's currently happening to me in my head using the same tone as that of the current book I am reading (even if it's in 3rd person).

Does that sound crazy? He pauses for a moment and it dawns on him that it just might, but he doesn't really care.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Hmmm... perhaps that I don't really like this trying to be witty in a self-describing profile, that's what real conversations were invented for. Let's do one of those.

I think Robbie Williams is more rock'n roll then people give him credit for.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 19–32
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
... you are cool enough not to care if other people think you aren't.

... you have a generally positive, cheerful outlook on life.

... you are really, really good at something. (even if you won't admit it for fear of seeming arrogant)

... you actually, seriously, managed to read trough this endless, blabbering profile. (if only because I like people that read!)

... or if you are all out of wit for today (a site like this is quite demanding when it comes to that) and would just like to just say hi. It's ok, I won't tell anybody.
