These are the fundamental questions that I explore every day. What is the true power of art? Does it have the power to make the viewer fall to their knees and weep in agony or can it cause the view to experience joy? What would you sacrifice for art? Would you sacrifice your life for your art? From a young age I knew I was an artistic being. I decided to dedicate my life to art. I wake up every morning at 6 am. I enter my studio at 7am and work until 7pm. As an artistic being, my main mediums are painting and sculpture, but I do not limit myself to any one medium. I love the process of making art. The use of the materials in my art is extremely important to me. I build all of my canvas stretcher bars, wood panels, and mix my own paint. The process of making my own paint gives me more satisfaction then buying the paint in the store, as well, the density of the pigment and quality of the paint.
In painting: my goal is to have ultimate mastery over color. Just like Rothko I want to express the basic human emotion through color. When a viewer comes before one of my paintings, I want the viewer to experience an emotion through the combination of color choices. I compare my artwork against the masters, because they have established the standard of quantity that I want to surpass.
In Sculpture, my pieces tend to be figurative. The goal is to tackle the form of the figure thru the tactility of the material. I work in plaster and ceramics. The material that I use is the main concern exploring the pros and cons of each type of material.
I believe that I can truly learn when I am in a challenging environment. I am always looking for a new challenge in art. I believe that your school can present the greatest challenge for me in my art career so far. I have learned so much and with that knowledge I freely teach others what my experiences have taught me. I plan to teach after I finish my degree and to continue to make prolific work until my last day on this planet.
P.S this is a rough draft of my artist statement
I am artistic, romantic, and quiet.
