Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Bit of a stereotypical ivory tower type. I travel very often, being
surrounded with people from all over the world is something of an
essential need to me. I have lived in Taipei for some years, where
I have started a phd program (which I am still working on) and
picked up a bit of Chinese.
I played in a punk/metal band and looking into making music again.
Right, I know this is not the place to advertise for musicians but
it's just so punk to shit where you eat! You feel me?
I would describe myself as a feminist, despite all the
complications and the current unpopularity of the term. Judith
Butler still rocks my world.
I am inclined to find smalltalk convivial. We don't have to be
constantly talking about 'the deep stuff'. It is perfectly fine to
take a moment for asessing the week's weather, or admire the many
uses of gaffa tape. Yes, including the naughty ones *blush*.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Research/teaching assistant, anthropology. Celebrating the bland
and boring. Gulping vast quantities of tea while reading
Foucault... The usual glamorous stuff. Writing a thesis about
sexual stereotypes of East Asians (Chinese specifically).
Incidentally I am one of the very few people (two I believe) who
specialises on Fu Manchu films. On the one in a billion chance you
are the other one, we need to talk!
I am also teaching at university now. In fact I got busted by one
of my students on OKC once and was told I mispelled Foucault. I am
more proud than embarassed by that incident.
I have a blog, it's been well overdue for an update. Check it out,
if you are so inclined: http://blog.soontobecollective.com
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
This is a bit indulging, is it not?
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I would like to say my sense of humour, but it's probably my beard.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

This keeps changing I would get obsessed over a book/band/film/show
for sometime and then can totally 'get over' it.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Why six? Why not five or ten? Oh I get it! Is it because it sounds
like something else?! Naughty...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I find it very difficult to know exactly what I am thinking about
in any given moment. I suppose I am usually fantasising about
self-sufficiency. Like becoming a survivalist and getting away from
the city, or perhaps living on a boat. Every now and then, totally
unexpectedly I recall really embarrassing moments of my past, and
possibly blush in public places without any apparent reason.
The dichotomy of whether I should be more reckless as the bell
rings for the 'last orders' of my youth? Or should I roll my
sleeves, sober up and get some work done. Lately I find myself
inclining towards the latter.
I have also been invited to contribute a short story for a book by
a friend. Though I am not sure how serious the offer is, I like
mulling over what my story will be like.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Depends. Ideally it involves dinner and company.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
all my problems are first world problems.
