My self-summary Propose an edit
Ireshaimase! My name is Chris, hajimemashite!
About myself, well I have traveled the world and have learned a lot
from it. I am in the military. I love to sail, surf, windsurf and do anything in the water.
All the best things in my life have happened on the water. Some
people say the glass is half empty, but I say it is bigger than it
needs to be. I'm a nice guy and I like to think that I am smart as
well. But who doesnt? I'm currently trying to learn Japanese and any help is
welcome.

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I am in the Navy and I love Japan. I have been here since October
29th and it probably is the most polite and happiest place on
Earth. Ok, so that's an exaggeration, but it still is amazing to
live in a foreign country and the people are ridiculously
polite.
I will be here in Japan for two years[one more year now]; two years
is a long time and anything could happen. In that time, I want to
travel to Korea and China.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Sailing. I have been sailing since I was six (that's 21 years so
far) and I am pretty darn good at it. I have sailed all over and if
you count my time in the Navy, I have travelled over 120,000
nautical miles! I love to travel, I have been to Canada, Barbados,
Aruba, Martinique, Saint John, Saint Thomas, Puerto Rico, Saint
Maarten, Curacao, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Scotland three times,
France twice, Italy ten times, Greece nine times, Turkey once,
Israel once, Philippines twice, Thailand once, Singapore a couple
times, Indonesia once, Malaysia once and I live in Japan! Wow, that
really sounds like I am bragging but I am not. I have learned so
much from being so many places and I have one rule while I am
traveling: you have to learn as much of the language as you
can.
In addition I took 11 years of Karate and I studied Bushido as well
as the katana and wakazashi during that time. Being here in Japan
is pretty profound to see these principles in action.
Are you impressed with my experiences?? Hah, I only have to go to
Antarctica to complete all the continents...unfortunately I have no
desire to go...
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
Here in Japan it has to be my blond hair and blue eyes and maybe my
height is a close second. As far as my personality goes, I would
say I am not the typical guy. I'm pretty eclectic and passionate
about what I like.
In America, I am old for my age; however that takes time to find
out.
See, by saying this, doesn't this affect what you are noticing
about me right now?? This question is pretty baffling and probably
shouldn't be shown until the second time you see my profile...as
though you'll come back, I know.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
I read Calvin and Hobbes a lot. Ok, I know, but there is a lot to
be learned from that kid. There is also a lot to be learned from
the theologian and the philosopher as well so that's why I have
read them as well...but not with as much enthusiasm. The Patrick
O-brian Series is good as well as Julian Stockwin's Kydd series. I
have always been a fan of Tome Clancy's, but don't let these
popular authors deceive you, I am also a fan of C.S. Forrester,
Kenneth Graham, Stephen Crane, Alfred Lord Tennyson, William
Wordsworth and many more.
LOL that was my attempt to fit in with the OKcupid crowd and list
as many of the books I didnt appreciate reading in High School and
giving a proverbial nod to those who share the same tastes all
while listing as many obscure authors in order to prove how "indie"
I am.
Music: I am a classic Rock fan; I dont think it gets any better
from here. I am also a fan of classical, but most people in my age
group arent appreciative of it.
Movies: I will always love TOP GUN. It was the first movie I ever
saw when I was five. It may be THE reason I am in the Navy today. I
am a big fan of HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS;
it is a beautiful movie both in plot and setting. Shawshank Redemption
was a great movie, but the book was too short. Bushi no Ichibun is
another good movie as well as The Hidden Blade and Twilight
Samurai. They are a VERY different take on Samurai movies. i always
loved Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Basically I am a fan of
character driven movies. The characters response to the plot is
always the most interesting part of a story.
Food: I tried Sushi when I was in the States to try it, but never
got into it. Here, I love it. Ironically enough, the most picky
eater ever, now eats horse sashimi(raw); no no, hear me out. I was
tricked by some scheming Japanese friends into eating it. They said
it was beef. 敵のための必要性無し! It's good with onion, ginger and soy
sauce. Other than that, I am and always have been in love with
Italian food. I cook it well because I understand it and I know
what I love. I am broadening my cooking horizons though.
I'm also a tea nut. If I'm in Singapore I drink Green Tea brewed
with Jasmine (cold), in the States it's my Grandmother's recipe for
mint iced tea, in Japan it's ocha (hot or cold), and by myself earl
grey (Twinings) brewed really strong and sweetened a lot. If I'm in
a restaurant, its barely sweetened iced tea.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
God, family, friends, good food, sailing and インターネット.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
My career, traveling, languages, religion. I think about the navy a
lot just because it is a huge part of my life. I try not to let it
consume me so I think about learning the Japanese language so I can
really learn the culture. I have been a lot of places and this is
as different from my culture as I have seen in a modern country. I
love art so Wabe Sai (am I spelling that right?) is interesting to
me and beautiful. I think of a Japanese garden with the raked sand
and grass growing the same way and then cherry blossoms in bloom;
pedals on the grass.
I'm also learning to SCUBA dive so I am thinking about that lately;
well as of this July 26th 2008 update.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
possibly on duty, at a bar, at a restaurant, sailing, walking the
Ginza and talking to friends. WOW, それは退屈している!
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I'll tell you two things: My fear is that I will not live up to the
expectations people have of me. Also I am pretty scrutinizing about
pens...I have to have a pen that writes well!
I have a place in my heart for orphans in Asia. My two sisters were
orphaned in China and North Korea. Xue Wen is eight and she is from
outside of Beijing. We call her Claire after my grandmother. Kim
Eun is from North Korea and she was smuggled out by Christian South
Koreans. Her American name is Katie. So between pens and this,
that's as private as it gets.
This question makes me mad. It is the best question, but some
people answer saying, "then is wouldnt be private" or "ask me."
Well guess what, we did just asked you and the question is the MOST
private thing. This question has so much potential, but people ruin
it with their lack of imagination.
You should message me if Propose an edit
you've even read this far, I guess maybe you should. So go for it.
I think you should understand that I don't think I am here for
romance. Maybe a friend, but anything can happen I guess.
Oh or if you can accurately explain to me why an object that is
approaching the event horizon of a black hole will appear to hang
in space forever. I stole that from someone else's profile but it's
too good a question to not steal. (yes, knowledge of physics and
general relativity earns you serious bonus points)
突き出る釘は、答えを得る! Haha! Yeah, I crack myself up with stupid jokes.
