My Self-Summary

I move around a lot, but I've always found a way to come home to Northern Kentucky. I live in Covington, now, and its starting to grow on me. I like being by the river and riding my bike up and down both sides.

What I’m doing with my life

I teach school and read books and ride my bike, do some gardening and occasionally daydream of taking trips all over the world. By the way, sometimes I actually DO take trips all over the world. I'm a big believer in all that Carpe Diem stuff because I almost died once and I realized afterwards that, whatever I believe about the afterlife (which is not much--I think we're worm food), you only get one shot at doing the things you want to do, so you'd better get to it! That said, I do spend an obnoxious amount of time vegging out sometimes. Its mostly a seasonal thing. I like to think I'm storing up energy, but that's the polite way of excusing my occasional sloth-dom.

I’m really good at

writing, languages, trivia, reading maps, getting lost, computers, selling beer, getting found again, and arguing about really obscure stuff that no one in their right mind world or SHOULD know. Also, sometimes I speak Spanish well. It depends on how often I've been using it lately, which is unfortunately not usually the case! (Come out of the Shadows! I swear I'm not "La migra!")

The first things people usually notice about me

I have a vast well of useless knowledge and I probably ramble on at times, leaving a trail of verbose, useless trivia in my wake.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: One Hundred Years of Solitude, Kurt Vonnegut, Marching Powder, Shantaram, The Kite Runner, The Drifters, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Poisonwood Bible, Fierce Invalids at Home From Hot Climates, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Frankenstein . . . the list goes on and on, I'll add more later.

Movies: Life is Beautiful, The Shawshank Redemption,The Sting, Indiana Jones, Traffic, The Red Violin, Amores Perros, Pan's Labyrinth, Espinazo del Diablo, Men With Guns,

Music: My favorite musical artist is Manu Chao. I also like Bob Marley, Wilco, Old Crow Medicine Show, Andrew Bird, Bluegrass, Iron Horse, Modest Mouse and this list goes on and on as well.

Food: Italian, Mexican, Indian, (some) Korean, Thai, Sushi

The six things I could never do without

Travel, passport, internet, camera, beer, and my backpack.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

growing food, food activism, eating local, things that will make me laugh, politics, pointlessness, traveling, teaching, books, writing, Spanish, geography, history, anthropology, Noah's Ark, Australopithecus, Kennewick Man, the Bermuda Triangle, Magical Realism, photography, ellipses . . . the list goes on interminably.

On a typical Friday night I am

looking for better questions to answer than this one.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Yo soy una bala perdida.

You should message me if

you have some interesting stories to tell or you can teach me how to cook something delicious. Delicious food is WAY better than non-delicious food. Also, I recently started dabbling in creating my own square foot garden. If you know what this is, I'd be happy to talk your head off about it for hours. Just kidding. (not really)
