Writing, real estate; operations management; less public broadcasting than in the past, art, history, craftsmanship, food, and culture.

It has been said that I live my life a little more complex than necessary-my car is stick-shift, my music is on vinyl, my coffee is whole bean, my shoes are calfskin, my watch needs to be wound-I suppose I think a lot about about the things I come into contact with on a daily basis; I suppose I want to be engaged.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working quite a bit; Cooking; Exploring-whether it be a new bar, restaurant, concert, or cultural event; Cycling or driving between Chicago and Great Lakes Naval Base (Great scenery; Great Road)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Finding a good restaurant. Proofreading other people's work. Totally useless trivia. Snarky comments. Shopping local.

I might have played basketball if people would have shut the fuck up about how I should have played basketball.

In my life, I've totally read books. I think, like most people, that I don't have nearly the time to read that i'd like or rather the reading that I do have time for would lead to a listing of magazines and not books (see The Atlantic) or even worse, a listing of podcasts and not books (see most things on NPR along with WTF and Savage Love ect.) but in the past I've been exposed to traditional novels such as

Wonder Boys by Michael Chabon, most things by Jonathan Franzen, most things by Ernest Hemingway, Old School By Tobias Wolff, The Coast of Chicago by Stuart Dybek, and The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Presents: Get Ready For The Metric System!

I'm currently reading Mike Royko's collection 'One More Time'

In 2014? Nightcrawler, Boyhood, and Birdman.

Pre-2014? Better Off Dead, Lost In Translation, Little Miss Sunshine, Old School, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Real Genius.

I'm surprised that I've never seen anyone just ignore that 'Shows' suggests television shows and attempt to list their favorite Broadway shows instead.

I mean, I'm a pretty big fan of music-this is not surprising. I'm going to try to not get too self-involved in this list. If you'd like to have an conversation about what I left off, I'll probably get all flustered and blush.

-Washed Out- Paracosm
-Cut Copy, Free Your Mind
-Phoenix, Bankrupt!
-Steely Dan, Aja
-Tokyo Police Club, Champ
-Joe Cocker, Joe Cocker!
-Fleet Foxes, Helplessness Blues
-Wire, Pink Flag
-R.E.M., Dead Letter Office
-Jefferson Airplane, Surrealistic Pillow

Once again, big fan. I'm always stopping at a local restaurant hoping to find a new favorite. I'll plan a whole day-off around getting to the other side of town to try something new

Lula Cafe-Just a good honest place to go

Tuman's Alcohol Abuse Center-Suprising, right?!

Edgebrook Coffee Shop-Diner brunch!

Calumet Fisheries -I didn't know that you could get to 3200 East in Chicago

Au Cheval- In a city full of expensive, mediocre burgers-an expensive burger that is anything but

Santullo's-Did that bearded-dude even wash his hands?

Marion Street Cheese Market-I've found it! I've found a restaurant in the western suburbs!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.

-A Good Podcast
