My self-summary
I grew up most of my life in the Midwest and settled here right after college. Being a true Pacific Northwesterner, I've taken up all the outdoorsy activities like hiking, running, snowboarding, and camping. After discovering that beer can be more than Bud, Miller and the dreaded Beast (hey the selection in the Midwest was pretty paltry), I've really been enjoying the micro-brews here in Seattle.
What I’m doing with my life
I currently work as an engineer and really enjoy the challenge/reward of solving some pretty complicated problems.

I'm always trying out new food-related side projects like brewing my own beer, cider making, or trying my hand at charcuterie.

And to work off all those pints of beer and slices of cured meat, I've really gotten into running lately. I've got a few half marathons under my belt and just finished my first ultra last October! A friend talked me into training for a triathlon this summer so now I'm learning how to actually swim rather than thrashing around like drenched cat in the water :-)
I’m really good at
I'm a huge foodie and love to cook, drink, and eat! From brewing my own beer and cider to cooking a mean pot of chili, something's always going on in the kitchen. Some of the more outrageous creations I've tried are making a turducken for Thanksgiving and now making my own prosciutto.
The first things people usually notice about me
My outgoing attitude. Maybe it's the Midwestern friendliness or the fact that I find almost anything interesting but I really enjoy talking to people and engaging their interests. It's surprising to see how people open when talking about the things they're passionate about.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
lots of Sci-Fi (Asimov, Heinlein, Frank Herbert, Ian Banks, John Scalzi, Dan Simmons), some Fantasy (Patrick Rothfuss, George RR Martin), and pretty much anything by Malcolm Gladwell

Grosse Pointe Blank, High Fidelity, Super Troopers, Office Space, Inception, Dark Knight Returns, Casablanca

Strokes, Black Keys, Peter Bjorn and John, Rhett Miller, Wilco, Rilo Kiley

How Did This Get Made, Radio Lab, This American Life, Freakinomics, Fresh Air, Stuff to Blow Your Mind, The Moth

sushi, dumplings, curry, pad thai, pierogies, anything that's grilled cause really, what man doesn't love the grill?, and's become my Sunday morning (ok, afternoon) ritual of making up to my body after all the abuse the night before ;-)
The six things I could never do without
Racer 5 IPA
my morning coffee
my running shoes and Nike+ watch
my library card
NPR/PBS/PRI...I'm a public radio/TV junkie goes well with anything!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What to make for dinner. And better yet, what's the perfect beer to go along with it. How much time I've wasted browsing through my ever growing Netflix queue.
