What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Writing is my true love, but realistically, for me, fine arts and base survival are probably best kept separate. During the day, I'm a licensed civil engineer working for a river science and restoration firm in Berkeley. After hours, I'm editing the first draft of my novel-in-progress. And so, even though my head and my heart are inconveniently located in the same body, they've found a way to get along. Well OK, most of the time... What else...? I spent my mid-twenties hitchhiking through Europe and teaching English in Asia, so I'm not the tropical resort type. Similarly, a suburban island is absolutely not my dream destination. But a more urban relationship with a committed partner who has my back... that's me.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Building things with my brain and making them with my hands, metaphor and algorithm, Bostonian tongue-in-cheek, running, rock climbing, being an older brother, seeing the world through another's eyes, light-hearted conversations about the biological imperative, and overall living with a lion's heart.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My overactive imagination. I think...

Author- "My imagination will get me a passport to hell one day."
Gothic Poem- All day within the dreamy house,
The doors upon their hinges creak’d;
Movie- "If being crazy means living life as if it matters, then I don't mind being completely insane."
Comedian- "Just looking at all the faces here reminds me of some of the great work that was done this year . . . by cosmetic surgeons."
Scientist- "By all means let's be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out."
Song- "Blame it on the satellite that beams me home."
TV Cook (and Cuisine)- "Hello, Namaste, salaam-alaikum, Sat-sri-akal."
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Grit- I'd rather rely on my guts than on my luck.
Friendship- To celebrate the good times and shrug off the hard times!
Family- I have 3 sisters, whom I love dearly, and have as such experienced firsthand the alternate reality of womanhood. Ideally, my counterpart would have the same with the men in her family.
Creativity- I'm primarily interested in the stark comedies and tragedies of everyday life.
Sex- It is such a relief to be with a woman who unabashedly loves sex and can assert herself in bed.
Skepticism- Fact is stranger than religion.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How to think less and live more in the present moment. (mindfulness can be quite a challenge for me...)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I once strapped a hammock to a bookshelf and sat down on it. Before I became an engineer. :)
