I am kind, empathetic, and fun loving.

My Self-Summary

I am open minded, laid back, friendly, and like to go with the flow. Fortunately my life is undramatic, but not boring. I am funny, but my sense of humor generally only emerges around the right people. I tend to surround myself with genuine and thoughtful individuals. Friends and family are really important to me. I believe in realness, honesty, and treating people the way I like to be treated, kindly. I am independent, comfortable in my own skin, and always true to myself. You should be too. I am in love with San Francisco and all its quirks. Recently I acquired a bike and after spending the last year walking almost everywhere, I am learning my way around all over again, this time on wheels. I biked around with critical mass for the first time recently and it was so amazing! In the summer I prefer hiking, camping, going to the beach, and cold refreshments in the park. In the winter, I like hunkering down with a good book, drinking tea, skiing, staying warm. In the city, I enjoy hanging out in Golden Gate Park, perusing the shelves at Green Apple Books, swinging by the DeYoung, grabbing a beer at the Bean Bag, having breakfast at Tartine, going for walks at Ocean Beach, and meeting new people (that's where you come in). I love that there is always something going on and am up for pretty much anything.

What I’m doing with my life

After college in Boulder, a year in New Zealand, going home to Massachusetts for nursing school, and a year in Santa Cruz, I am happy to have settled in San Francisco for the meantime. I work part time at Planned Parenthood. Working at the clinic is great because there is so much emphasis on education and illness prevention. I also work with awesome people and get to meet patients from all around the world, which makes things much more interesting. I don't like my job because I meet a lot of women (and some men) who are stuck between a rock and a hard place, and sometimes I feel sad at the end of the day. However, I have many more good days than bad, and I like going to work in the morning.

I’m really good at

hanging out, getting along, not flaking out

The first things people usually notice about me

i'm shy

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, The World According to Garp, To Kill a Mockingbird, No Country for Old Men, Stiff, Tales of the City, Silk, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, The Economic Hitman, Desert Solitaire, The Year of Magical Thinking, Prince of Tides, The BFG, The New York Times- I'll read pretty much anything.

Rushmore, ET, Royal Tenenbaums, Bottle Rocket, Dumb and Dumber, Die Hard, Love Actually, Elf, Stranger than Fiction, Wall-E, Best in Show, The Office, Six Feet Under, 60 Minutes...

Jose Gonzalez, Nina Simone, Van Morrison, Zero 7, Cold War Kids, Amy Winehouse, Yonder Mountain String Band, Bela Fleck, Built to Spill, David Gray, Johnny Cash, Gillian Welch, Neil Young, George Harrison, The Tallest Man on Earth, Iron and Wine, Weezer, Beirut, and the list goes on...

The six things I could never do without

Water (love it!)
Glasses and contacts
Cheese
The coastline
Books
A Toothbrush

I spend a lot of time thinking about

boys, my patients, the news, food, how fortunate I am.

On a typical Friday night I am

Out with friends, sharing a meal, listening to music, watching a movie...

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I got stood up last week. Seriously, I thought that only happened in the movies!

You should message me if

you think we would get along, you are looking for a reliable friend, you want to go on a date with a sweet girl, you have a decent sense of humor and a good disposition, or you just want to say hello. I don't really like the idea of defining the type of person I want to date or befriend. While sharing some interests and having a similar outlook on life are generally good things, having differences can make a relationship more interesting too.
