My self-summary
I'm a California native who, after a decade in the Bay Area, decided it was time for a big change. I recently moved to Austin and have been having a great time so far.

I want to spend time exploring the crazy live music scene here. I've been dumbfounded by the sheer number of bands playing on any given night.

I play the drums and, even though they're set up in my garage, haven't touched them since moving to Austin because I don't want to piss off our sheriff neighbor who owns all the houses on the block. Update: totally started playing them, haven't been shot by the sheriff yet.

When I don't have access to a drum set, I play a ukulele and entertain myself by learning Built to Spill, Stars, and Neutral Milk Hotel songs. On that note, I just discovered http://www.karaokeunderground.com/ and am super excited. Who wants to go with me?

I lived in Spain for a bit in college and know some Spanish, including an impressive amount of Castilian swears and pick up lines. I'm really undisciplined about practicing and want to fix this. Ayudame.
What I’m doing with my life
Exploring all that Austin has to offer. Getting settled and meeting people in a new state.

Building great things on the internet. It's the future after all.

Coding creative tools for people who want to express themselves by making video games and trying to finish making a damn game myself.
I’m really good at
Catching gummy candies in my mouth while carrying big indoor house plants.

Getting excited about obscure music that you hear at Spider House Cafe that you would never hear played in California cafes.

Knowing every word at the Jeff Mangum show and singing them way better than that drunk guy next to me.

Unexpectedly finishing other people's sentences.
The first things people usually notice about me
Depends I suppose. A beard, mustache, or bushy hair seem eye catching.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: All Vonnegut, Catch-22, Good Omens, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, The Hobbit, Ubik and some of the less drugged out Philip K. Dick books (Valis is unreadable). I've been trying to finish Gravity's Rainbow for a while now.

Movies: Christopher Nolan stuff, American Psycho, good (should have stopped at) trilogies: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Die Hard.

TV: Simpsons, seasons 1-13, Futurama, Dexter, Parks and Rec, The League, 30 Rock, Star Trek, Danger 5, Italian Spiderman.

Music: I'm really into late 90s indie rock like The Dismemberment Plan, Built to Spill, Les Savy Fav, Q and Not U, Pavement, The Wrens (this has to be the year for a new album *crosses fingers*), and Neutral Milk Hotel.

Other bands I enjoy: Andrew Bird, Grizzly Bear, Of Montreal (Satanic Panic through Hissing Fauna era), St. Vincent, Dirty Projectors, John Vanderslice, Menomena, Girl Talk, Broken Social Scene, Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon, Guided By Voices, and a band I saw one time called What's Up? that have since disappeared from the face of the Earth.

I have a sentimental attachment to the record "Set Yourself on Fire" by Stars.
The six things I could never do without
Don't really like this one.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How it's the future but we don't take advantage of all the great tools we have.

We have these tiny devices that know about the whole internet but are mostly used to look at gifs of cats (which is actually pretty okay).

I think a lot about how conflicted I am, choosing one place to live when there are so many places I'd like to try. Also, about how this fits in with my intense hatred of packing for trips.
On a typical Friday night I am
Out trying new things in Austin. So far I'm excited about the various Alamo Drafthouses, the cheesy dueling piano bar, and of course Death Metal Pizza.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm really not private about anything at all.

"Ask me, I won't say no, how could I?"
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 21–35
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
You know of some great local gems and want to validate my choice in moving to Texas or if you can tell me all the great local bands I don't know about.
