My self-summary
I live in Dubai, but grew up in Colorado. I would like to someday call NYC home, even for just a little while. I teach high school visual art and epistemology, but want to go back to school to get an MFA in printmaking and/or (preferably and more than or) an MA in art theory (probably in the US, but I won't rule out Canada or the UK). I consider myself to be decently intelligent and fairly passionate. I love to try new things (and foods!), like acting and directing plays at my school, even without any real experience. I can find a way to be interested in just about anything, even if I don't understand what it is (like biophysics). I love to travel. (Everyone seems to say this, I know, but I would like to offer as proof that I've been to 9 new countries in the last two years. And there will be plenty more to come, if everything goes my way.)

Part of me really wants to get married someday, but by no means am I ready to settle down now or anytime in the near future. I'm looking for a best friend and a partner to go with me on all of my adventures, and someone who will support me and will let me support them equally the same. I'm not desperate, or easy, or clingy, and will wait a good long time to find exactly what I'm looking for; I won't compromise my beliefs or take someone who is just "good enough." I don't believe in "the one," but do believe in love, and will keep looking until I find it. I'm a big believer in letting things happen as they might happen and I know there are a lot of things outside of my control (like who I meet, how I meet them, and when they might come into my life), so I've opened up my profile to be more than just people "near me" (which is preferable) to "anywhere." You just never know who might be out there!
What I’m doing with my life
Teaching is my full time job, but I keep busy doing other things like theater (on stage and back stage) and playing music every once in a while (whether at a pub or a house party). Just finished acting in Twelve Angry Jurors as the lead character, am heading into exam season at school which is full of grading and other heinousness, then will have a glorious summer break in NYC which will hopefully be filled with nothing but making as much artwork as I can, going to museums and galleries, and studying for the GREs. Life is too short to do anything less!
I’m really good at
Talking about art to an extent that none of my friends care or want to go to galleries with me. Drawing. Being observant. Traveling without a detailed itinerary. Making things up as I go along.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm quiet. I hate that this is generally what people notice first, because I'm really not quiet once I get to know someone, but I need to find an ease with a person that allows me to open up a bit more. If you're a warm, funny, chatty person, likely I'll become that way pretty easily, too.

The six things I could never do without
Yoga
My violin
Sketchbook
Something to read (blog, novel, essay, research journal, ?)
A camera
Some sort of transportation for spontaneous getaways
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Teaching, curriculum, my students. Civil rights. Politics back home in the US and here in the Middle East. Art and theater. Where I can get a hold of either a teleportation device or a timeturner.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have never been one of those girls who sits and mopes if she doesn't have a boyfriend (life is too short for that sort of drama), but when I listen to someone like Rosemary Clooney or Bing Crosby or Ella Fitzgerald, I really want a boyfriend just so I could have someone to sing to (or better yet, sing with).
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 24–36
  • Located anywhere
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, long-distance penpals
