My self-summary
Bronx born & raised, but now in LA for good. I've gone from NYC-Toronto-Tokyo-LA-The Bay & back to LA, with stints as a community organizer, teacher, live-in nanny, and culinary school student, amongst other ways to stay occupied. Now, I've found my dream job in the place I've wanted to live in since I was 8, and want to explore this town with even more awesome people. I'll always support your wacky schemes, and unlike that last guy you dated, I'll dance with you anytime, anyplace (cue up the Janet!)
What I’m doing with my life
I'm an editor - nope, not film, comic books. I've had the gig for almost a year now, and it's gone by in a blur. I work a lot, but it never feels like "work", even as encroaching deadlines threaten to give me a full head of grey hair (well, it works for John Slattery...). There were definitely some rough patches along the way, but I've made it thru the storm. If I could hop in the DeLorean to tell my 14-year old self where I'd be in 20 years, I wouldn't - I'd just tell him to smile more.
Besides making funny books, I'm putting the finishing touches on my first novel, throwing myself back into cooking (I let my skills atrophy), and take Muay Thai classes 4 times a week, which I adore. I want to start salsa dancing again, because bopping around my apartment to youtube clips ain't satisfying...
I’m really good at
My Oatmeal Cranberry Kahula Chocolate Cookies, which I make for my friends on their birthdays (I tried to switch to other recipes, but everyone demands "The cookies", and I give the people what they want). Beating deadlines. Parallel Parking, as befits any NYC expat. I'm also a pretty decent salsa dancer, if a bit rusty.
The first things people usually notice about me
Since growing it out, the beard has become a magnet for commentary. Also my height, and my wardrobe - you may take the man out of NY, but you can't take the NY out of the man (this means I rarely go Cali casual, and love dressing up).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I have a pile of unread books on my night table that's now nearly taller than me. I'm insatiable - once I'm in a bookstore, I can never walk out with just one. I've been on a big "WTF, America?" kick for a while now - the current incarnation includes Twilight of the Elites by Chris Hayes, Nixonland by Rick Perlstein, and all the blogs I read daily. The best non-fiction books I've read in the past year were The Secret Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop by Dan Charnas, and Manning Marable's Malcolm X biography.
As for fiction, I'm a noir junkie - I can't wait to crack open the new Megan Abbott, Dare Me (check out The End of Everything if you've never read her stuff); I'm a huge fan of Christa Faust (I highly recommend both Money Shot & Choke Hold). I've also been chipping away at Steven King's Under The Dome, Chronic City by Jonathan Lethem, Half-Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan, and the first two Game of Thrones books.

I just finished Anthony Bourdain's Graphic Novel, Hey Jiro!, which was a fun yarn.

I love podcasts: I did one for a little over two years, and I loved every second of it. I dig Put This On, Salt & Fat, Point of Inquiry, Paperkeg, and a bunch of the WNYC & KCRW options.

Movies: Anything Kurosawa, Almodovar, Wong Kar Wai, westerns, noir, To Sir With Love, Grand Illusion, Oldboy, Todd Haynes, James Toback (especially Black & White), Brick, the Christopher Nolan Batman films. I really want to see the Ai Weiwei documentary...a friend dragged me to see Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 in the theater, and...yeah.

Current TV: Mad Men, Luther, Justified, Up With Chris Hayes, and the Thursday Night NBA on TNT Doubleheader (but not Inside The NBA - Shaq ruined that show).

Music: This list could go on forever, so I'll just say that I generally prefer beats to guitars. Mix of recent stuff & old faves: Mayer Hawthorne, Aloe Blacc, and the entire Stones Throw clique, The XX, Sebastian, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Alice Russell, Marian Call, The Breton Band, Marina & The Diamonds, J.Cole, Biggie, Liz Phair, R.E.M, Everything But The Girl, the Metal Gear Solid soundtracks, & 10,000 more. I also have near encyclopedic knowledge of 90's East Coast Rap lyrics.

Food: I'm allergic to seafood, but otherwise I'm down for whatever. You've got places you wanna check out, let's go already! I do love it spicy, that's for damn sure.
The six things I could never do without
Weights, subtitles, autumn, buildings with exposed brick interiors, suits, and comic books.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
All aspects of the various creative projects I'm working on. How badly I want to go dancing again. The plethora of amazing illustrators one can find via tumblr/twitter/etc every day. What's next for Occupy/how will it evolve in the wake of the encampments being broken apart. When I'll make my next trip back to NYC. My notebook full of restaurants I haven't tried yet. The 1993 NBA Eastern Conference Finals.
On a typical Friday night I am
Depends upon how many books I've gotta send to print. Perhaps hitting the gym late, maybe seeing a flick at either Cinefamily/The Landmark/Arclight/New Bev, perhaps finally buying whatever item I've been staring at online all week, or getting takeout from a new place I've been eying and finally catching up on Breaking Bad, now that Season 4 is on Netflix streaming...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Hey, didn't I admit to seeing Twilight already?
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 24–42
  • Near me
  • For long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You want a connection with someone with whom you can be both as silly or as serious as you'd like. I just bought my first pair of swimming trunks since living in Southern California; let's go swimming and talk about everything.
If you have any freak in you, feel free to respond.
