My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Yesterday I spent some time searching for models of drones on the internet for a story. And now all of the ads on this page, as I type this, are of drones—your friendly neighborhood Apple drone, a drone that looks like it's just returned from taking pictures through a gap in a motel window, the whole spectrum. It's making me laugh. That's also so creepy! So there you go. It's nice to meet you.

I'm a journalist. I like writing about science and art and the places they intersect. I also like writing about food. I also like making food.

I have a large dog who howls to the radio. I brought him with me from New Mexico, where we used to go for hikes in the woods every weekend. I'm hoping to start taking more weekend hikes here. I've only been in New York for two years, and I came out for a grad school program that's already over. Now I want road trips.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm kind of becoming ... a runner? I never liked running until I started last fall for the sake of my dog. And now it's this amazing thing that makes me feel like I'm running away from and toward some unknown everything all at once.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I made double-chocolate banana bread yesterday but took it out of the oven five minutes too soon, and so when I turned it onto the cooling rack it was beautiful for .5 seconds and then split itself in half, exposing a dark, gooey mess. Now it's all mushed together in tupperware, but it still tastes pretty damn good.

I finished reading "In Cold Blood" for the first time this week. It's perfect. Haunting and tragic, but somehow Capote instilled lightness in the dark. It's a beautiful read. One of my favorite bits: "Perry lay sleeping, with a gray portable radio murmuring beside him. Except for taking off his boots, he had not troubled to undress. He had merely fallen face down across the bed, as though sleep were a weapon that had struck him from behind."

This week I'm listening to a lot of Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Joanna Newsom, Gossip, Black Sabbath, Mission of Burma, The Rolling Stones, Heart, Rush, Tenacious D, and The Empire Records soundtrack.

Food is so good. I can't even.
