My self-summary
Yesterday I spent some time searching for models of drones on the internet for a story. And now all of the ads on this page, as I type this, are of drones—your friendly neighborhood Apple drone, a drone that looks like it's just returned from taking pictures through a gap in a motel window, the whole spectrum. It's making me laugh. That's also so creepy! So there you go. It's nice to meet you.

I'm a journalist. I like writing about science and art and the places they intersect. I also like writing about food. I also like making food.

I have a large dog who goes by the nickname of Keen. Velveteen Keen. I brought him with me from New Mexico, where we used to go for hikes in the woods every weekend. I'm hoping to start taking more weekend hikes here. I've only been in New York for a year and a half, and I came out for a grad school program that's already over. I haven't seen much of the Northeast since I moved, so this summer I want lots of road trips.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm kind of becoming ... a runner? I never liked running until I started this fall for the sake of my dog. And now it's this amazing thing that makes me feel like I'm running away from and toward some unknown everything all at once. I'm training for the Brooklyn Half and am even debating trying to raise enough money for a charity so I can run in the marathon this November. Is that crazy?
I’m really good at
I made double-chocolate banana bread yesterday but took it out of the oven five minutes too soon, and so when I turned it onto the cooling rack it was beautiful for .5 seconds and then split itself in half, exposing a dark, gooey mess. Now it's all mushed together in tupperware, but it still tastes pretty damn good.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I finished reading "In Cold Blood" for the first time this week. It's perfect. Haunting and tragic, but somehow Capote instilled lightness in the dark. It's a beautiful read. One of my favorite bits: "Perry lay sleeping, with a gray portable radio murmuring beside him. Except for taking off his boots, he had not troubled to undress. He had merely fallen face down across the bed, as though sleep were a weapon that had struck him from behind."

I watched "Capote" the moment I set the book down. Probably a bad choice, even though it's a great movie. The best movie I saw in the last couple of months is probably "Her," but I thought Jonah Hill was awesome in "The Wolf of Wall Street." I really, really want to see the new Veronica Mars movie because I just do.

This week I'm listening to Neil Young, David Bowie, Fruit Bats, Joanna Newsom, Gossip, Girls, The Cure, Betty Who, The Rolling Stones, Heart, Van Morrison, The Cardigans, and a little bit of The Left Banke because "Walk Away Renee" makes me think of my childhood.

Food is so good. I can't even.
