I am creative, hedonistic, and riot grrly.

My Self-Summary

I'm a New Yorker living in London, just finished some post-grad schooling, and looking for people to do things with. I love roller derby (watching--haven't quite got up the nerve to do), theatre, the arts in general, and animated discussions with smart people. I take pride in bruises and skinned knees, crave fancy dress, hot pink fishnets, and pajama bottoms with equal passion, and have been known to get into platonic fist fights. I spent a year in Dallas, Texas and discovered I rock out on the mechanical bull.

Most (though not all) of my friends here were at school with me, and don't do much besides what they do at school. I'm someone who needs to go out and do things, but sometimes wants a buddy to do those things WITH. Which brings me here.

What I’m doing with my life

Applying for jobs in an attempt to be a theatre director/playwright.

I’m really good at

-Knowing a lot about female pirates. I just might rank as a leading historian.
-Crosswords
-Riding mechanical bulls (as mentioned)
-Closing bars/parties (if they're fun enough)
-Spirited debate
-Remembering conversations verbatim, even years later
-Making poached eggs, spicy chocolate pudding pie, and noodle kugel
-Hosting
-Cursing, under the right circumstances

The first things people usually notice about me

A famous writer once said of me and my sis, "One [surname] sister is a force of nature; both of them is like being punched by God." Seems like that'd jump out at you pretty fast.

Also there's my red hair, my smarts, possibly some other physical attributes. And as I'm a New Yorker, I tend to be pretty expressive/emotive/direct.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Movies: Right now I'm obsessed with Whip It. It'll come out here soon I think.

Music: Bowie, Sleater-Kinney, The White Stripes, Bikini Kill and riot grrl in general, Franz Ferdinand, Weezer, Fiona Apple, The Buzzcocks, Elliott Smith, and all the Ella Billie Janis Jimi etc.

Books: Crime and Punishment, Tender Is the Night, Ulysses, Dealing with Dragons, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Manifesta, Self-Made Man. Tons of plays.

Food: Indian is a favorite, and something that London does as well as, if not better than, New York, so it's definitely become a comfort food. Mexican is up there; Thai is great but I'm feeling a little overexposed; a good rare burger; anything brunch; I like Middle Eastern food though I'm no connaisseur; Tex Mex, which I doubt even exists here, which is ok cuz really it's like eating candy for dinner.

I don't like seafood beyond canned tuna. Sorry. Don't know why, wish I did.

The six things I could never do without

Spicy food, word games I can play on my laptop, intelligent discourse, a project here or on the horizon, fun underwear, and at least a dash
of rocking out.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

-My all-star zombie-fighting team. (Xena: Warrior Princess, Angel the vampire with a soul, Cyclops, Shelley from Scarygoround, and Danger Mouse. Trust.)

-How annoying it is that London doesn't have iced coffee or pizza by the slice. Come on people, those are no-brainers!

-Theatre, politics, psychology, and of course sex.

On a typical Friday night I am

I don't have a *typical* night right now. But things I like to do on Fridays include seeing plays and bands, getting out of the house in general, trying out food in unfamiliar neighborhoods, stuff like that. The last time I lived here I liked going dancing at indie clubs, but this time around I can never get anyone to go with me, and a lot of the places I used to go are closed, so I'm out of the loop.

But staying in the house on a Friday also has its serious charms. Especially with, say, a take-away curry and a bottle of wine.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I love Courtney Love. Like, unconditionally. Deal with it.

(I wrote a play about her!)

You should message me if

You're smart and fun and have the ability to be laid back at least sometimes, though not necessarily always. You're kind and will challenge me to think and feel and laugh. You care about what goes on in the world around you, and you're not really into traditional gender roles. And since theatre and the arts are a huge part of my life, it'd be great if you enjoy such things.

Ideally, I'd like someone who can make me excited to stay out all night, and then will sit around with me in pajamas for most of the next day. Appreciate snarkiness but don't live off of it. Enjoy a combination of girly and macho. Forgive my messy room.
