I am buttery, warm, and delicious.

My Self-Summary

I think of myself as being shy, but people tend to disagree with me about that.

I often feel nostalgic for times and places I have never lived in. Sometimes I think about Blitz-era London and how tragic and exciting it was even though my grandparents weren't even born yet, let alone me.

I disagree with those little personality button icon thingies.

I like to play games like Scrabble and Bananagrams and say things like "Triple word score! Suck it!" while I play. But in a charming way. Also, I rarely get a triple word score in Scrabble.

I would really like to find someone willing to play Frisbee on a whim.

I keep a bucket of sidewalk chalk in the trunk of my car at all times.

I'm a former hard-partying teenager who now likes to hang out at home regaling my friends with stories of that time I did that thing I thought made me super cool.

I like to do crafty things because I'm fidgety.

What I’m doing with my life

Currently teaching myself as much as I can on my own about food, both cooking and nutrition. If you know me long enough, I will randomly send you recipes of either things I found or things I made up. I like to know that people are being given the opportunity and resources for nourishment.

Professionally I'm a Statistic of the Recession right now. You could also say "Laid-off" but I prefer "Retirement Beta-tester".

In my (now plentiful) free time I help run a knitting group chock-full of great, hilarious, somewhat bawdy, raucous gals.

I’m really good at

makin' yummy foods (I seriously rock peanut sauce, just ask me), knitting/crochet/embroidery, proofreading, making lists, giving driving directions, remembering to call my mom, laundry

The first things people usually notice about me

Possibly that I'm swearing...loudly and creatively...in front of children. I'm working on it.

Or sometimes the kickass Lawrence Ferlinghetti-inspired tattoo on my wrist.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books - I read just about anything I can get my hands on. I can send the link to my Goodreads page for specifics. Some favorite authors include Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Corso, Ferlinghetti, Burroughs, let's just put all the other Beats in this space right here. Kurt Vonnegut, Tom Robbins, David Sedaris. Also Alison Bechdel, who sort of counts. I recently got into Sarah Waters and am excited to read more of her work. I like historical fiction and am a sucker for cheesy romance novels.

Movies - I like French movies (specifically Audrey Tautou movies), Audrey Hepburn movies, classic movies in general, and terribly painful 80's movies where the stars of today are adorably awkward. I'm also a sucker for rom-coms.

Music - My favorite artist is Mike Doughty. Also: The Beta Band, Fleet Foxes, Boat, Laura Veirs, The Gossip, Neko Case, Rilo Kiley/Jenny Lewis, The Swell Season, Camera Obscura, Mates of State, The Duchess & The Duke just to name some. I have a soft spot for classic rock and 90's "indie" rock (think Weezer and Jill Sobule). I still get an excited teenager flutter when I listen to Pearl Jam.

Foodz! - I'll eat just about anything that gets put in front of me (as long as it's vegetarian). Truly my favorite food is Comfort Toast. It's your basic toast on good bread with butter/margarine but it just sounds so much better with the word "comfort" in front of it, right? Right.

The six things I could never do without

1. Books
2. A comfortable pillow system
3. My skeletal-muscular system
4. Potato (my cat)
5. Water
6. Bread (for toast of course)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Oh...god...everything. Lately, I think a lot about how I can simplify my life to consume less and appreciate more. I've been turning into a bit of a personal finance nerd, but I counter this by reading blogs like Awkward Family Photos and Passive-Aggressive Notes.

On a typical Friday night I am

Usually relaxing at home watching a movie, and fidgeting with some craft project. On Super Special Occasions (like when they ask me to) I go have a beer on someone's patio. I like to think I am a purveyor of all things low-key.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

When I see people cry on TV or in movies, I sometimes (always) cry with them.

You should message me if

If you like carbs. Or just to eat, in general. I mean real eating for the enjoyment of nourishment, not that guilt-laden kind of eating people sometimes do.

If you tend to read more than one book at a time.
