My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am the girl next door. I'm originally from Iowa, I lived there until age 21 when I graduated university. I'm from a rather large extended family, and they are very important to me; they live various places throughout the U.S., which provides a good excuse to travel!

I've always had an appetite for adventure. After college I moved to New York for an internship and went onto Boston for graduate studies. While I loved urban living, I yearned for more sunshine and year round outdoor recreation, which brought me to California in 2000.

Finally, please don't write me off because of my zip code. That is temporary, and I am mobile!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work in a management role at a large company. I work relatively consistent day time hours. I enjoy work, but it doesn't define me. I could easily be lured to something else if there was financial security. Have you every thought about leaving all your responsibilities, selling everything, and travelling the world? I do, then I feel a pang of sadness that I can't bring my dog everywhere. I take him everywhere possible. He has travelled out of state more than most Californians. I love taking him for long walks on local pathways, hiking trails, or the beach.

I spend lots of weekends away, and take as much vacation as my employer allows. In the past year I spent ten days in Kaua'i, visited friends in Denver, made several trips to Iowa to see family, enjoyed a week of skiing in Colorado, followed by lots of Mammoth, and just returned from a week in Hawai'i, and now heading out for 4th of July week with family. I also enjoy cycling on the weekends. I would be thrilled to meet someone who is also into cycling and skiing, and enjoys travel.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm good at reading between the lines, perceiving what isn't spoken. I can tell when people are 'faking' a cheerful attitude.

I'm also good at spreading joy, smiling and laughing, being silly, dancing like nobody is watching...listening to my partner, being present.
The first things people usually notice about me

They notice my eyes, and tell me how nice I am, like everyone they ever met from Iowa. Now I ask you, how many people have you met from Iowa? But seriously...weren't they all really nice people? There is an authentic kindness in Iowa. I easily connect with people who have that quality.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
So many books, can't name them all. Come look for yourself at my collection, I keep my favorites. I started buying iBooks last year. It seemed unusual at first, but now I'm enjoying the medium.

I enjoy legal dramas, crime stories, and shows with family themes, think Brothers and Sisters.

My music collection is diverse, influenced by my friends and travels. It is ironic that after over two decades of building a somewhat impressive library, Pandora and iTunes bring everything right to our fingertips.

I enjoy eating fresh fruit and vegetables every day. I'm not much of a meat eater but I do eat it. I prefer fish if given a choice. I'm relatively open to all types of cuisine, my favorites are thai, indian, italian, and of course grilled mozzerella cheese sandwich.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Southern California weather
strong social network - Friends and Family
playtime and snuggling with my canine companion
music - listening, creating
Serenity prayer
Love, it makes the world go 'round
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Every morning I think about a flowering plant I've kept alive for over a year. There were several times it looked dead and I was ready to give it up, but I always gave it another chance and it keeps coming back with new buds. It's been a metaphor of life to watch the old life fall away, and see the new growth flower in abundance.

I wonder what people are not sharing in their profiles. Everybody puts their best self forward but the truth is we all have some part that is vulnerable.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Relaxing at home or in the neighborhood with friends, or enroute to weekend fun somewhere else.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I'm not a big fan of online dating, but here I am. It seems engineered to meet people with similar interests, leading to matches that would make good friends. I think we're better off to find the right chemistry/energy fit and share a few similar interests, or grow to share common interests. It's hard to test chemistry online. I guess that's why they call it a numbers game?
