My self-summary

Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Here some bits and pieces about me...

I grew up in the Midlands and moved around a fair bit in my early twenties; including teaching English in Greece and Spain. I moved to London eight years ago and haven't left since.

Nowadays, I write for a living. I've got three kids' books out so far and another coming out fairly soon, and I manage a legal news/advice website as well (not very glamorous but pretty stimulating as I get to analyse the news every day). Also, I travel around the country teaching creative writing in schools - the classes are great and pretty surreal as we write about zombie islands, spaceship cannibalism and rampaging hydras with the older kids and create superheroes with the younger ones. Clearly have I Peter Pan Syndrome but I'm okay with that!

I love learning stuff as well. I've got two masters degrees in Egyptology and Global Politics and I'm currently contemplating the next one (I'm thinking law but psychology, French or Mediaeval History could be good too). This isn't a competitive thing; I just get bored easily and doing a Phd seems too much work.

I'm a massive music fan and if it twangs or rocks I'm in (think Bruce Springsteen, Nick Cave, etc.). Also, fav films include the Darjeeling Ltd and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Also, I recently joined the Labour Party and I'm getting pretty involved. I imagine this might be a deal-breaker for some people.

No idea what else to write about and I still can't work out whether I should be self-aggrandising or self-effacing. Just give me a shout if you want to know more.

What I’m doing with my life
writing and visiting schools.
I’m really good at
see above. And procrastinating.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm tall, I wear glasses, and I have a beard.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Re music I'm listening to a lot of Wolf Parade, Nick Cave, The Deep Dark Woods and Springsteen. If it twangs or rocks I'm in, and I enjoy gigs too.

I LOVE watching a good film too. My favs are The Darjeeling Ltd and Forgetting Sarah Marshall (not the most high-brow but it makes me laugh every time).

I read a fair bit but don't have a particular favourite genre.
The six things I could never do without
Decent restaurants
Cynical humour
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
Out with friends in or staying in watching a film or TV series.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm prepared to admit I watched the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with my mum. It was weird (the situation not the film - well the film was a bit weird too but mainly the situation).
You should message me if
you want to.
