My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.

Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Here some bits and pieces about me...

History - Grew up in the Midlands, went to Exeter and then Birmingham for uni. Ended up going to Greece to avoid having a proper job and then Spain. I've been in London for eight years now and after moving about a LOT I've found work/lifestyle that seems to suit, although I'm always up for new experiences (I fancy trying yoga and visiting the black forest...).

Writing - I do it for a living. I've got two books out so far and more should be finished soon(ish), and I tend to lean towards more gothic, darkly humorous stuff. It can be a lot of fun and it was a great feeling seeing my books on the shelves of Waterstones for the first time. I also recently went back into normal work doing writing for different organisations as I didn't like working from home much. It's great having colleagues again!!

Learning stuff - I'm a bit of a learning nut and really enjoy absorbing new information and ideas. I've studied a fair bit too and ended up with two masters degrees in Egyptology and Global Politics. They were interesting but I think I need a break from academia for a while! However, I am tempted to learn French...

Teaching - I travel around the country teaching creative writing in schools. It's great fun and pretty surreal, and I get to talk about zombie islands, spaceship cannibalism and rampaging hydras for a living so I've got no complaints.

Problem solving - utterly addicted. Seriously. I think I write stories just to give myself new problems to solve! It can potentially bug people though and I should probably never go into politics!

Music - Currently listening to a lot of Wolf Parade, Nick Cave, The Deep Dark Woods and Springsteen. I enjoy gigs too.

Films - I LOVE watching a good film! Saw Boyhood, the Secrets in their Eyes and The Great Beauty recently - all fantastic!

Butterfly houses - absolutely love them and I want one in my garden, I need a garden first though.

Authors - Huge Pratchett fan, plus Clarke, Murakami, Maugham, are authors I like that immediately spring to mind. I enjoy lots of others too and read a great deal; I don't have a particular genre I stick to. Currently enjoying CJ Sansom's Dark Fire, Herbert's Dune (again), and rereading Thud! by Pratchett (I usually read Pratchett at least once a month).

Movies - Big Wes Anderson fan - The Darjeeling Ltd is my fav - plus it made me want to wear Marc Jacobs suits. Also, I saw Tell No One recently and loved it.

TV- Arrested Development, Family Guy, the Sopranos, Firefly, Jeeves and Wooster, South Park, Fresh Meat, Peep Show, Archer, Spaced, West Wing, Californication, Community, and Bored to Death.

Music - Bruce Springsteen, Shearwater, Wolf Parade, Magnetic Fields, Sunset Rubdown, The Decemberists, Blitzen Trapper, The Deep Dark Woods, and Okkervil River

Food - I'll eat anything. Addicted to ricotta stuffed peppers at the moment. This will change.

Holidays - I'm not a fan of crowds so I much prefer holidays to remote places rather than city breaks.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Decent restaurants
Cynical humour
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Out with friends in or staying in watching a film or TV series.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm prepared to admit I watched the new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with my mum. It was weird (the situation not the film - well the film was a bit weird too but mainly the situation).
