I am hungry, curious, and a pod.

My Self-Summary

Unfortunately I began filling out this profile from the bottom-up, so I'm now thoroughly tired of writing. Here's the abridged version. I'm fairly convinced I'm human. I've lost count of the number of times I've been called odd and myriad variations on that theme, so consider yourselves warned!

What I’m doing with my life

Enjoying it, for the most part.

I’m really good at

Playing Devil's advocate. I love to argue. (In the debate-y sense of the word, not in the screaming/limb-flailing/kitchen utensil hurling sense.)

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm direct, I guess. That's what usually makes people notice me initally. If you ask for my opinion, I will give it to you, no fluff. That makes me sound more hostile than I really am.

I also walk into things, a lot. I'm a master of self-injury. So that's another thing. Well it's probably the first (and only) thing that people notice, but it's less cool, isn't it. Less like Harry Callahan and more like a bumbling idiot.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Where to begin? I'll read anything. More often than not you'll find me reading sci-fi (guys like Frank Herbert, John Wyndham, Douglas Adams being among my faves) or books/journals related to my fizzy-good-feel-nice discipline of choice, ecology.

Movies...hmmm. Quick list of ultimo-favourites. Blade Runner, Alien, The Shining, Eternal Sunshine, Snatch, Army of Darkness, The Matrix, No Country For Old Men, Fargo, Ghostbusters, etc.

When it comes to music, I'm fairly open-minded and will give anything a chance. On high rotation at the moment: Led Zeppelin, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden. Old friends I always come back to: Radiohead, P.J. Harvey, Nick Cave, Tool.

My metabolism is not unlike a planet-devouring pan-dimensional creature of doom, and goes a long way to explaining my insatiable appetite. I eat a lot.

The six things I could never do without

Tea. The brewed in a teapot variety, none of this filth-in-a-bag business. I drink copious amounts.

O'Neill, my beloved D70s camera. I upgraded to an SLR a few years ago and have never looked back.

Linnaeus's binomial nomenclature system. I am in constant awe of it, and think about its brilliance at least once a day. Granted I'm somewhat biased, but I'm not sure that really bothers me.

Music. When I'm not at work, I'm listening to it.

Pens. I like to write with them. Words, I mean. They're also good for sketching/translating the never-ending effluent that seeps from my head onto paper. It's almost cathartic, I suppose, and I get fuzzy warm feelings from the more organic aesthetic that pens/paper provide.

A mysterious sixth item.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Space travel, the origin/s of life, terraforming, my next meal.

On a typical Friday night I am

Avoiding the hive. I'm not into the HUGE GATHERINGS OF HUMANITY that you commonly get in clubs, etc., so you'd be better off looking for me where there are fewer people. Smaller music gigs, places with awesome food, here at home or maybe a friend's place. Again, let me reiterate I'm not as rabidly misanthropic as this profile seems to be indicating.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I spend a lot of time creating imaginary conversations, the majority of which feature Napoleon Bonaparte in some capacity.

You should message me if

the naming of inanimate objects doesn't bother you.
