My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I like to meet interesting people and learn from them. Right now, I'm here just to meet fellow linguists.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I cycle wherever I can, since I drive a lot for work, which involves being desk-bound either at home or in the office, miles away. Ideally I'd like to do all this from somewhere else in Europe.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making computers do exactly what I want - I'm a closet geek. I'm good at playing several musical instruments poorly (not at the same time). I'm unparalleled at seeing the best in people and staying friends with exes. I'm really good at being on time and sticking to my promises.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
That I am well-spoken and reasonably tall (six feet, rounded up).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books
I barely read fiction (unless it is to improve my foreign language skills, in which case I have even been known to read a Jeffery Archer novel). I prefer books on science, history, language and things that make me laugh.

Authors I have enjoyed include Richard Dawkins, George Orwell, Dave Gorman, Bill Bryson, Douglas Adams, (and pencilled in for the future) Terry Pratchett.

TV
I rarely watch it. if I do, it will be a documentary, QI, Green Wing, Spaced, Blackadder, KOTH, Family Guy, or the Simpsons.

Films
My favourite films are indie, non-Hollywood, usually foreign and subtitled. Favourites include Fargo, Il Postino, 8 Femmes, Pan's Labyrinth, Amelie, Napoleon Dynamite, Juno... anything by Lars von Trier or Almodovar. Mainstream likes include the Shawshank Redemption, Kill Bill, Zoolander and my favourite film, Airplane!.

Music
Purcell → Puccini, Conchords, Abba, Queen, Minchin. They are the things I will actively seek out. But I will listen to and probably enjoy anything that is not a formulaic three-chord number from an anodyne boy band.

Food
I eat all foods and enjoy discovering new flavours. My favourite foods are steak, cheese fondue and pizza. Also on my menu: crispy duck, belly pork, haloumi, gruyère, camembert, roquefort, saint-augur, bleu d'auvergne...basically, any French cheese.

Makes me laugh
Alan Partridge, Tim Minchin, Simon Pegg, Blackadder, spooves, silly words, like 'spooves'.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
• Red wine
• Books
• A radio
• French cheese in my 'fridge
• An interesting companion
• More red wine
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What to make for dinner.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Dining with friends or quietly reading with a glass of wine.
