I am affable, laughable, and cantakerous.

My Self-Summary

I enjoy the natural world, some virtual worlds (in a information transference sort-of-way, not a tangible-life-replacement-gaming way) and and all that they give (or take) from me. I enjoy walking, biking, driving, running, skiing, and most other forms of transport. The exploration that transportation allows is even more appealing. I love reading, I try writing and I'm fairly well versed at the physical act of photography. I am, however, not apt towards the production of attractive images. I like to push instead of conceed defeat (unless a well-reasoned argument is offered). I take things apart before I know how to put them back together. I put things together as if I knew how to take them apart.

What I’m doing with my life

Past: School, corporate america and a computer software startup.

Now: I moved to Brooklyn (from Michigan) after accepting an AmeriCorps VISTA position with a non-profit in Brooklyn Heights. I volunteer my time in return for a meager living stipend, fantastic resume material and a complete change of pace. I love it so far.

Future: I am contemplating a move back to school. Where such contemplation takes me is unknown, but the unknown is what makes it exciting.

I’m really good at

- The photography
- Casual bike rides that turn into dangerous races down large hills
- Warming hands in pockets and cold-weather outings
- Cooling heads under faucets (natural and not) and warm-weather sproutings
- Reading several books at a time
- Making full use of my pint-sized oven and stove
- Attempting proper repair of my (poorly) aging german automobile
- Devising odd conglomerations of old appliance containers and new-fangled technologies.
- Hiking in tropical and temperate rain forests
- Hiking to horribly named but aptly described destinations such as "Mosquito Falls" and eating wild blueberries en route.
- Consuming micro-brews heralding from Michigan breweries
- Lying on the shore of a large body of water at night and attempting reasonable contemplation of the universe - unless it is obscured by clouds.
- Wasting time with a television in view (30 Rock, It's Always Sunny, Breaking Bad, Movies, ...)
- Attending concerts and live theatrical performances of wide and varied genre and talent.

The first things people usually notice about me

I have been said to have a good "Eyes, nose, mouth combo'; I am not sure what that means. The other is that I wear similar clothes much of the time.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I'm not sure I've read any list of musical affinities that was restricted to just one genre. Mine doesn't buck that trend.

Favorite movies: I don't discriminate too much. Art-house films from the 70's don't usually capture my fancy. I'd love to love one. Help me. I may admit to loving two classic movies: Batteries Not Included and Short Circuit - yay for high-tech 80's comedy.

I am a reader of recommendations - I look to friends, Amazon and Good Reads to find new books to absorb. I've just started reading Neil Gaiman's Smoke & Mirrors.

I'll try most any food once and end up having many with much greater frequency than that. There are a few foods that I avoid: lima beans, Hákarl, and bacon.

The six things I could never do without

Sustenance.
People (friends, family, benevolent dictators, lovely misers, heartbroken actresses).
Keys for belongings (but not the belongings themselves).
Audio reproduction devices (mostly digital, sadly).
Bicycles (single or multi-geared, rarely fixed).
Light sources.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

how to do more. I find myself comfortable with surprisingly few changes in my day to day life - I'd like to change that. I enjoy, probably too much, allowing myself to be absorbed in a moment, a view or the music I'm listening to. Distinct and definite thoughts aren't often found in those moments.

On a typical Friday night I am

Looking for something to do. Helping in the creation of plans for things to do. Doing something. Doing nothing with a sense of complete satisfaction.

Events that I attend usually involve enjoyable people but have been known, on occasion, not to.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I wish my Ukrainian background gave me eyes beyond brown.

You should message me if

one of the following points can be proven factual:

- You're happy or sad.
- You've lost a puppy or cat.
- You would like to build a Popsicle-stick bridge and proceed to crush it.
- You think of yourself in terms expressed only with odd facial movements and flailing arms.
- You're alright with all that you know about me and all that you don't.
- You are willing to hit the 'send' button on a message to me.
