What I’m doing with my life
I ask myself this question all too often actually...
Recently have been spending a lot of time studying the subjunctive tense in Italian. Ugh, it's killing me.
I’m really good at
placing random actors from what I've seen them in before, hosting a party, remembering names (usually), keeping in touch, random trivia, keeping secrets, geography, packing, making salads, speaking italian when I've had a few drinks, giving a good stink-eye when the moment calls for it, being an aunt to my super-awesome little nephew, folding laundry (it's true, I've been told on multiple occasions how well I fold my laundry by the people who actually work at the laundromat. Always good to have something to fall back on!)
The first things people usually notice about me
ummm... not sure, I've been seeing myself for my whole life... maybe smile....??? maybe sense of humor??? Oh wait, no, I'm going to go with my name. It's often the first thing someone comments on.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Some favorite books in no particular order: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, The Life of Pi, Pillars of the Earth, Watership Down, The Shadow of the Wind, The Count of Monte Cristo, Harry Potter, Shantaram, Seabiscuit, Unbroken, Nick Hornby books, Roald Dahl is rad.
Currently reading: Ulysses (it's sloooow going) (updated: this is technically ongoing, but I've semi-given up and still have no clue what the hell is going on) and Silent Running: My Years on a World War II Attack Submarine (oh yeah, I have a totally random and inexplicable fascination with all things submarine related. And shipwrecks- I love a good shipwreck as well).
Oh and also reading Treasure Island on my iPhone

Some favorite movies: The Goonies, Top Gun, High Fidelity, Searching for Bobby Fischer, Up, Out of Africa, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Full Monty, My Cousin Vinny, Trainspotting, The Last of the Mohicans
Last saw in the movie theatre: The Perks of Being a Wallflower (this is out of date, but I can't remember for the life of me what I last saw in the theatre- probably something back at Oscar time)

Music I like: Rolling Stones, CCR, Ryan Adams, Band of Horses, Phoenix, Death Cab, Bon Iver...
Currently on rotation: The Tallest Man on Earth

And some favorite tv shows: Mad Men, Arrested Development, Freaks and Geeks, Californication, Friday Night Lights, Downton Abbey

Food: I only eat poultry and fish, but other than that I am pretty easy going and will try most things.
The six things I could never do without
In no particular order...
1. my passport
2. floss
3. Marmite
4. a sense of humor
5. sleep
6. books
Family and friends are a given.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
my next upcoming vacation, my friends in far off lands, the weekend, apparently these questions and the fact that by its nature, this website forces us to be all Judgy McJudgy on other people... I'm not sure that sits too well with me (she says as she clicks through peoples' profiles and moves on without flinching...).

What the person sitting across from me on the subway is thinking, where are they going, are they happy, what's their story?

Why there are so many guys on this site who think any reference to American Psycho in their ID would be a good idea?!

Also, why do most history teachers bore the hell out of history? I mean it's all about conflict, war, drama, innovation, passion, independence... the list goes on... That's exciting stuff! I've always thought history teachers should teach it like they would a novel, with characters and plots, themes etc. I mean, it's basically one long story, right? It just happens to be true, which always makes a story that much more thrilling.
On a typical Friday night I am
Probably just taking it easy at the end of the week. But if I can do that with friends (and a glass of wine), all the better.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
well then it's not private... duh.

But I will say that I have seen The Parent Trap (Haley Mills version) more times than I can even count. It is a personal affront that they 1. remade it and 2. remade it with Lindsay Lohan.

I find it physically impossible to change the channel if Bring It On is on tv.
