I am creative, thoughtful, and pleased to meet you.

My Self-Summary

I moved to Brooklyn from Portland, OR last December, and have since learned that everyone in Brooklyn apparently dreams of someday living in Portland. I work in social media marketing, so yes I'm sometimes that guy tweeting in the middle of a party. I write a lot, mostly about music and pop culture, for various outlets. With the new job I'm writing less than I used to, but enough to keep me stocked with free music and show entries, so I'm happy.

In my spare time, I enjoy long walks in Prospect Park, going to museums, seeing live music at eccentric venues, and being oddly domestic (I had way too much fun shopping for a lamp at Target). I'm also madly in love with my window unit AC (yes, even as fall turns to winter...my landlord has this thing about leaving the heat on full-blast).

What I’m doing with my life

Surprisingly for having a LA diploma, I've got a pretty cool job going on, working in social media marketing. It involves a lot of the things I busied myself with when I was underemployed, only now it's a deeper dive and I play the role of expert.

The most predominant spare-time activity for me is writing, mainly about music and pop culture, for various outlets. I've been working on a long series of articles about iPhone apps for making music, so if you're interested, I certainly have much to recommend.

I’m really good at

Spotting samples in songs. Do you want to know where [x] got that groove from? DO YOU?!

The first things people usually notice about me

I've been told I have attractive eyelashes. A bit odd to hear, but I'll take the compliment!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Impossible to list them all, so I'll say the following:

Books: I went through a phase last summer where I could read nothing but William S. Burroughs' cut-up books. I also have an interest in Russian literature from having studied it, and will gladly read Pushkin in the most faux-romantic voice I can muster. I love most anything by Chuck Palahniuk (so sue me, I dig the shock), and can devour a David Sedaris collection within a day or two.

Movies: I could say something pretentious about how I enjoy Pasolini and Lynch, but Hackers is admittedly my favorite film of all time. So, crazy futurism and electronic music will make me want to see a movie like whoa.

Music: I listen to music like it's my job, which it is, at times. I'm open to most kind of music, but love classic techno and house, experimental glitch-type stuff, and anything minimal. If you're into pop, don't let that scare you off - I'm very adaptable.

Food: it keeps me going. A good Pad Thai is pretty awesome.

The six things I could never do without

Excluding family and other things that aren't really "things" but are very essential:

1. iPhone (no, I don't think Apple is a perfect company, but yes, I have 100% become attached to this little HAL 9000)
2. My laptop
3. Metrocard
4. A watch
5. Shure SM-57 mic and a sampler (with which anything on earth is possible)
6. Oxygen (is that too obvious?)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Life, the universe, aesthetic deconstruction, what makes something "music", where I'm going, and of course finding a nice guy.

On a typical Friday night I am

Out to dinner with friends, then seeing a friend's band play at an eccentric venue somewhere buried in Brooklyn. Or perhaps seeing a movie. Or maybe DJing somewhere. I also love nights in with a significant other / good friend, watching a cult/dumb/fun movie.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have a very sensitive sense of smell. I brush my teeth fairly obsessively and carry around gum. If I offer you some, it's not your fault, it's mine. Really!

You should message me if

You're interested in friendship, a date, talking about music, or any combination of the three. I'm a friendly guy, say hello!
