I am optimistic, energetic, and musingly cynical.

My Self-Summary

It's interesting that I have to write essays to get into college, get a job, get into graduate school and now to meet people. Getting drunk at bars is so much easier but then again I wish I got a couple essays from the people I met at those bars. Would have saved some trouble. So my typical day, apart from money-making, includes reading 2-3 of the dozen books I happen to be reading at any one time. Going to the gym to punish my muscles for not being bigger and more toned than I would like them to be. Or perhaps running along the Potomac. Cooking myself a meal if I'm not going to try some new ethnic restaurant. Watching classic movies to feed my interest in writing screenplays and filmmaking. Perhaps the evening will include a bit of writing or editing of my attempts at novel writing. Weekends include hitting used books stores, maybe going to the museum though I've been to them so many times I could walk through them with my eyes closed. Evenings include dropping a glass or two of beer down my throat at an Irish bar or occasionally swinging my hips around at a dance club that's playing something with a good beat. Could be almost anything. Is that a long enough essay?

What I’m doing with my life

Writing, hating writing, loving writing, being un abogado. Look it up. it's Spanish. And I buy way too many used books. Plus I'm involved in web entertainment as a side business. Part of my creative outlet to make up for my regular job. I'm struggling to discover innovative ways to entertain in the visual medium.
Current reading material:

Alexander Dolgun's Story: An American in the Gulag - Memoir about life in the Soviet penal colony system right after WWII
Present at the Creation - Dean Acheson - Memoir about life in the State Department during WWII
Hiroshima - Hersey - Accounts of Japanese victims just after the dropping of the bomb
Artificial Life - Levy - A discussion of the development of artificial intelligence
One Writer's Beginnings - Eudora Welty - The author's memoirs
IRA Tactics and Targets - Analysis of the Irish Republican Army
Soldiers of the Night: The Story of the French Resistance
Inside a U.S. Embassy
Information Warfare - Winn Schwartau
Masterpieces of Terror and the Unknown - fulfilling my love of stories about ghosts and human madness
City of Night - Rechy
oh and a bit of Elric of Melnibone by Moorcock on the side since I've already finished with Dune and the Tolkien books. Maybe I need to hit the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series soon.

I’m really good at

musing about the world. Cardio workouts too. Not writing too much about what I'm good at.

The first things people usually notice about me

I pay attention to them when they speak to me.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Authors - F. Scott Fitzgerald, Graham Greene, Vonnegut, Hemingway, now lots of true crime, history, ancient Greek and Roman literature (translated) pulp mystery and detective novels. Anything about Soviet Gulags or prison life. I'm into reading/studying horror, madness, crime, but also light hearted kind of stuff. I'm sort of into science fiction but more the hard science kind of stuff.
Movies - Old movies, new movies, gangster movies, magical realism movies, Monty Python, good comedy, anything that doesn't show you the same old story, same old cinematography, same old dialogue.
Glory, Shawshank Redemption, Goodfellas...
Music - Lots of Jamaican dancehall, techno, industrial rock, Billboard top hits from the 50s, 60s, 70s. Sappy 70s rock. The average ipod selection.
Food - I'm one of those people who can eat anything without putting on weight so I try everything and make everyone jealous. Indian is my favorite, Thai a close second, Sushi a close third.

The six things I could never do without

Books, music, working out, my computer (gah), silly sensuality, NASA (the outer space bunch).

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The state of human society and what I'm going to eat next.

On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging with buddies having a beer. Or watching a black and white noir film.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I've got a strange looking lizard in my house, but I don't mind reptiles. I grew up in Miami.

You should message me if

you have a mind that doesn't want rest.
