My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hey I’m Chris.

Some things I like — books, drinks, friends, movies, food (eating it and cooking it), restaurants, sitting outside, art, live music, taking pictures, coffee, the outdoors, people-watching, traveling, seeing new things, pizza, cities, buildings, conversation, red wine, dark beer, fixing up my rough little apartment to be a fairly nice place to live, dinners with friends, bike rides, writing, words, bed.

I have a dry sense of humor & depending on the day & my mood (slash how many drinks) this sometimes might conceal some underlying romanticism? I don't know. I'm pretty easygoing.

My favorite people are smart, relaxed, silly, dirty, sweet, kind, and curious.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Finished med school last spring & just started a three-year residency at Shands. Currently taking care of people with fucked-up livers and thinking about what to do with vacation in October. I just got back from some traveling & now I kinda want to learn Turkish.

I love what I’m doing, work-wise. I like being immersed in hearing people’s stories & thinking about how the body works, the countless ways that shit can go badly wrong, and the small ways we know how to help. My tentative plan is to work as a hospitalist. [Update: since people keep asking, a hospitalist is a doctor who takes care of people in hospitals. Counterintuitive I know.] I feel like there’s a lot of room for improvement in how we take care of people in hospitals and being part of that sounds good.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
analysis, silliness, empathy. reheating food without a microwave. knowing the rules of grammar intimately so I can break them with abandon. making just one trip from the car.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I don’t have favorites exactly because it all depends on mood and different things are good in different ways. Shit I like reading includes fiction (random sample: Murakami, Donna Tartt, Lev Grossman…), classic lit, science, language, art, old books. I can hang out in used bookstores for hours. I sometimes use Goodreads.

television—some shows I like are Mad Men, Girls, Breaking Bad (now Better Call Saul), The Americans, Always Sunny, UnReal, Broad City, OITNB, Parks & Rec (RIP!), BoJack Horseman, Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley.

movies—here’s some ones I’ve liked recently—Inherent Vice, Grand Budapest Hotel, Your Sister’s Sister, Spring Breakers, A Separation, American Hustle, Dallas Buyer’s Club, the Lego Movie, Argo, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I’m Not There. I guess I like movies that tell a good story in a specific & interesting style. I like smart comedies & dumb ones too but it’s been a while since I saw anything really hilarious. I’ll go see a superhero movie if you want, but I don’t know, I’m kind of bored with movies where the fate of the world is at stake and a lot of shit blows up.

music—like it. I can get into a classical concert or a music festival or a show in a dirty dive bar. What I listen to really depends on my mood & what I’m doing — I guess here’s a random sample: Bob Dylan, Crystal Castles, Belle & Sebastian, My Bloody Valentine, Emmylou Harris, Wu-Tang, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye, Broken Social Scene, Japandroids, Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, The National, Adele, Titus Andronicus, Run the Jewels, Gram Parsons, The Cure, Walkmen, Slowdive, Beach House, Radiohead.

food—it is good. Penne all’arrabbiata, buffalo wings, sushi, fried rice, roasted brussels sprouts, peaches. Recently I’ve discovered lentils & they are amazing. Indian, Korean, pizza, Mexican, etc etc mmm food.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
books, memory, desire, garlic, olive oil, love
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
what to make of things
On a typical Friday night I am
