Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a geek and damned proud of it! Name something that makes you
think of a geek and chances are I've done it/is into it. I'm an
avid gamer, but I don't let it interfere with spending time with
friends and family. I enjoy spending time having deep conversations
with people on all sorts of topics, so I frequent coffee shops and
tea houses quite often. I have a rediscovered passion for playing
pool and I'm working on making it a routine to play at least once a
week :) I've also started sketching again, but I definitely need to
learn how to draw people so they don't all look exactly the
I love cooking and trying to learn new recipes. I love cooking for
others to enjoy and as my friends have told me, "You are a bitchin'
cook!" I take that as a good sign!
I used to be a music major and traveled a bit. I was lucky enough
to visit Shanghai twice for a parade as part of a group
representing the Tournament of Roses Honor Band and loved getting
to see the extreme differences between pre-modernization and
post-modernization. Both trips fed into one of my degrees, History
with a focus on Asia.
I'm looking to explore the sights and sounds of LA, especially
since I haven't really done so, despite living here for most of my
life. Places on my list include the Science Center w/ the new
Endeavor exhibit and the Hollywood sign, but chances are if you can
name a place, I still haven't been and want to go!
My best friend Cristen also wrote a short blurb about me:
"Ben is one of the friendliest, and most optimistic people I've
ever met - I'm surprised that he always sees the silver lining in
the worst of situations. He's a big-time lover of animals, sports,
and a good movie, he's quite an easygoing guy. He's loyal to a
fault, as my panicked mid-night calls can attest to. He's helped me
get through some really rough patches and I don't know where I'd be
without him. I can always count on him."
Oh and I am Homestuck :) if you get this, woohoo!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am working as an after school teacher with 8-9 year old kids.
They are a rowdy bunch, but they are quite sharp. :)
I am currently working on becoming certified to teach History at
the high school level, but I am looking to become a collegiate
professor to teach Ethnic Studies or the history of immigration in
Sorting through applications and the like for grad school reminds
me of being a high school senior applying for undergraduate
college. This is as confusing as I remember it
Officially passed my CSET single subject! Woo!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
whistling and snap my fingers with both hands. I learned how to
snap with both hands in response to a challenge thrown at me by my
sister that she could learn how to whistle more than one tone
before I could snap with both hands. I won, muahahaha!
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
...the more I think about this, the less sure I am on what it is. I
suppose it is my "lost-in-thought" look that I tend to have.
After asking around, I'm told my laugh stands out a lot as well.
Though, it has been a mixed review. I'm also told my smile is
great, so that works ;]
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
This is a short version.
Some of my favorite movies include The Shawshank Redemption, Mr.
Holland's Opus, The Siege, Star Wars (yes even the prequels, if
only because of their purpose of expanding the universe.)
TV shows: Futurama, Battlestar Galactica, Burn Notice, NCIS, Star
Trek: The Next Generation, American Dad, Criminal Minds, Dirty
Jobs, Pawn Stars, Covert Affairs...gah I keep adding more as I
think about them!
Music: A fan of all genres except for most rap. Rap is artistic but
not music to me =P
Food: I don't think I have experienced a type of food I don't like
yet! As a sidenote, I do enjoy cooking.
As for games, I'm a fan of basically all game genres, but I'm big
on adventure, rpg types the most. Big ones off the top of my head
are Mass Effect (the series, except the end of 3, UGH), Elder
Scrolls and Fallout.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I have no clue on what these 6 things would be :|
After much thought, I know one of them is the internet (Oh the
world we live in)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
social issues (wants to change the world a bit too much)
I also spend way too much time thinking about various plotholes in
movies and how in the world I could fix them so the movie would
make more sense.
Currently spending a lot of time thinking about my grad school apps
(in progress) and how to continue helping my kids excel in
Recently I've been debating on whether to keep this thing or not.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
studying, reading, gaming...trying to find more things to change
that up though.
Trying to work in some pool on a more consistent basis.
I've been biking again too! Though I'm sidelined by a flat tire
right now. CURSE YOU BROKEN GLASS!
