Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I think Conor Oberst said it well for me when he said, "On a scale
from 1 to 10, 10 is exactly what I am with 0 being everything I'm
not. Tell me what you like. Is it less than 5?"
BUT, I rate most people higher than 5. I like to be surrounded by a
diversity of thoughts and actions. I like people who push me to be
more than I could ever be by myself, and I like to push in the same
way. Your life doesn't have to match with mine, that would be
boring, it just has to be compatible with it.
Basically, I'm an explorer. I'm a SOCIAL scientist in that I love
being surrounded by and interacting with people. I'm interested in
getting to know people deeply, and in expanding myself through
their experiences. Growth through exposure to other people. I find
that super valuable.
I'm a poly person, interested in having deep and meaningful
relationships with a variety of people. Good thing my heart isn't a
zero-sum game! Hope yours isn't either. My partners, including my
amazing boyfriend, would sure hate if it was.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
A question that could have such a diversity of answers! I feel like
it basically needs a five paragraph essay to answer it. I'm
currently improving myself by being involved in hobbies,
strengthening connections that I have and building new ones, going
to graduate school for Evolutionary Anthropology, and expanding
myself by working on projects outside of my field.
If I had one piece of advice for any high school graduate it would
be to not forget that the reason you do the things you do is
because you love doing them, and that if you stop now, you will
become much worse at things you love to do. My main hobbies in high
school were playing trumpet and tennis. After a break of many
years, I'm picking those up again. And it's really hard! I'm
playing trumpet about 10 hours a week these days, and tennis about
8. It's really tough to not be as good as I once was, but I hope to
get there again.
Like probably everyone says on these things, I love spending time
with my friends. Not just the friends that I have, but the friends
that I want to have. With friends, I'm quite interested in having
deep and involved relationships, so that we talk to each other
about most anything and are deeply involved in each other's lives.
I would love to meet more people who are like that in
relationships. Indeed, that's one of the biggest reasons I want to
I'm in graduate school at UC-Davis in Evolutionary Anthropology. I
study the evolution of human behavior. I hope one day to grow up to
be an evolutionary biologist that uses human behavior to ask
interesting questions about evolutionary dynamics. I try to bring
in both the social and the science side–I think it's impossible to
do social science without them both. I try not to take my work too
seriously, though I'll talk your ear off, if you want.
I've also recently been working on pushing myself outside of my
field and comfort areas. My boyfriend is an amazing guitarist, and
I tried to learn for a while. Now I'm content with listening to him
make magic, but I might try again soon. I'm also working on
establishing a media presence, guest writing for blogs and thinking
of starting using social media as a scientist. I'm always looking
to expand the things that I do, and I'd love any suggestions you
There's my five paragraph essay. Out of 10, what's the grade? Is it
more than 5?
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Big blue eyes. And I seem to fill a room up when I get into it.
This is usually great, because I'm usually in a good mood. But it
can be bad news when I'm in a bad mood.

I am a sucker for anything science fiction. A fun project that I am
working on now is doing thematic analysis of the works of all
science fiction authors who have won 4 or more Hugos or Nebulas.
Yep, I'm that much of a nerd. On second thought, maybe I shouldn't
have led off with books...
Television is one of my favorite things to do on my downtime. I
think it is the entertainment medium right now where we're seeing
the most creativity and best stories being told. That said, some
Arrested Development, Breaking Bad, How I Met Your Mother (I'm
almost guaranteed to get along with anyone who can quote from this
show), The Wire, Community, Modern Family, American Dad, and the
list goes on.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.

structural conditions to produce behavior.
Outside of nerd land, I love watching and thinking about soccer.
On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging out with friends, challenging myself by deep interactions
with them and challenging them through the same. I like people who
can connect deeply, and I hope you're someone like that. If you're
not sure if you are, we could always talk and hang out and find out
if you are!

...you have something smart or interesting to say. I find most
things interesting, though, so don't be nervous.
...you really want a deep connection with someone. I fight really
hard for the friendships that I have, but I'm always interested in
expanding them. If you really want to get to know someone, I'd love
to talk to you. If you don't, you probably didn't read this far and
just messaged me after looking at my pictures.
...you like having a good time. So...I'm a very intense person.
When I do something, I do it real hard. That also means that when I
go out, I go out hard. If you like to do that, awesome.
...you play music or are musical. I want to surround myself with
musicians. If you don't play, but really know what music is, that's
great, too. I want to learn of cool new music from you.
