I am honest, tricksy, and precious.

My Self-Summary

I have spent a good few years trying to prise the inadequacies and failures of my teenage self from my soul whilst trying to retain the enthusiasm, the depth of feeling, the thoughtfulness I had then, which seems to be what so many people lose when they get older. Not sure if I've succeeded but I'm fairly happy with life now so... does it really matter? The thing about contentment is that it makes you sound very boring on paper; a few years ago I 'read' like a much more interesting person, all fire and opinions. Now I don't try so hard but I'm much more likely to say what I actually think. I've never been much of a person for coming forward, I like to watch and take it all in and then comment (sometimes at length). Not sure why I'm here ... but I like quizzes.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm writing a PhD about the history of madness. I'm also settling down to domestic bliss.

I’m really good at

Reading, writing, remembering little known facts about little known indie bands from my mid-1990s heyday.

The first things people usually notice about me

The entirely fallacious observation that I'm calm and controlled ... great misleading impression to be able to create though.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Great Expectations was the last truly great book I read. Favourite film is The Maltese Falcon. Favourite music ... indie-pop. Best album of 1990s was Vauxhall and I. Foods - cheese, onion and bacon.

The six things I could never do without

1. The Boy Precious 2. My eyes 3. My ears 4. Books 5. Music 6. The caffeine and cigarettes combo

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My PhD, nervousness about future career, how great it is that I'm not a teenager any more.

On a typical Friday night I am

50-50 split between at home, curled up on sofa, or at pub.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have no secrets.

You should message me if

You're bored but interesting.
