geeky, inteligent, and dedicated
My self-summary Propose an edit
(Updated 08/21/08)
My name is DJ. I'm a father of a 2 year old boy. My life
(including my schedule) revolves around him.
That being said, it is most likely that you will never meet my son.
He has a mommy and he doesn't need another one. I'll be ready for
you to meet him at about the same time we are ready to move in
together. That's how serious our relationship would need to get
before I'd let him meet a woman I'm seeing. My reasoning behind
this is very sound and is actually recomended by Depelchin's
Children Center for divorced parents. My son doesn't need people
entering and leaving his life. He won't understand and it'll hurt
him. I'm tryin to provide as stable an environment for him as
possible. I hope that you'll be understanding with that. Basically,
you'll never have to worry about going on a date with me AND my
son. You can let out that sigh of relief now, I know you want to.
:p
If you're still reading then that's a good sign. :) I'm a geek. I've loved Star Wars since I can
remember. So you could specifically call me a Star Wars GEEK. I've
read almost all the books in addition to having the movies
memorized.
I LOVE to read. I
read on average 2 books a week depending upon my work week. I also
love movies. Best of both worlds.
I like to hang out with a close group of friends most of whom I
know from Boy Scouts.
I listen to the Rod Ryan show on 94.5 the buzz almost every weekday
morning. The rest of the day I devote to a mix of country or
rock.
I can be humorous and it usually tends to be on the sarcastic side. Actually,
it's always on the sarcastic side. At parties with my friends I've
been known to be entertaining after I've had a few drinks. Mostly
at the expense of my friend's pride. They don't seem to mind,
they're usually laughing too hard. BUT I can take it as much as I
can give it and I'll laugh it off with you.
When I'm pissed off I can cuss like a construction worker... hey,
wait a minute... I AM A CONSTRUCTION WORKER... It DOES make sense.
No, really.
When I'm with a woman I like, I am affectionate. Chivalry is not dead.
I WILL open doors and pull out chairs for a lady. Not all the time
(with the pulling of chairs), mind you, but definately out at
restaurants. I've been known to caress and I've been caught staring
into eyes. I've been known to give good massages. On a date I'm up
for most things. I like to "wine and dine" at a decent restaurant
or take in a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse (my favorite
place to watch movies [I'm also up for other such theatres that
offer alcoholic beverages and don't allow minors {I HATE those
prissy little teenage punks that talk during movies}]). I also like
watching movies at home cuddled on the couch. If you're nice I
might even cook dinner.
My thoughts on certain subjects:
ALCOHOL: I
enjoy it. I like beer, wine, and liquer. I usually go to Spec's atleast once a month and
buy some beer I've never had and 2 new bottles of wine. Why?
Variety! There
are certain aspects in life where I think one should try new
things. Mine happens to be alcohol. Currently I'm enjoying the
refreshing lager taste of Molson Canadian (a beer) and I can't wait
to open my bottle of Chateau Bianca 2004 Pinot Noir. There is this
wine shop in Sugar Land town square that I'd love to go to with
someone. Any takers?
SMOKING: I
prefer to date women that are non-smokers. But in today's society
that's hard to find. As long as you're polite about it (ie. not
purposely blowing it in my face or something) then we should get
along great. The reason I make a fuss about it is that I'm allergic
to something in it, don't know what it is. I don't allow smoking in
any of my vehicles or my home. It lowers the air quality and value
of both. Yes, I'll date you, I might even fall for you, but don't
expect me to like it. I don't smoke cigarettes, but I'll
occasionally enjoy a fine cigar when I'm drinking. I don't inhale
and I regret it the next day. I know, I'm a moron, but when I say
occasionally I mean like once every couple of months. Does this
make me a little hypocritical? Yes. I know. I appologize. It's one
of my quirks. I'll just repeat myself: I regret it the next day and
I only do it while drinking. For some reason intoxication makes it
easier for me to deal with it. Wierd, I know.
DRUGS: Never. I've never done any,
and I don't want to do any. I tend to NOT date people that do them. But I might be
willing to make exceptions, depending on what they do.
BARS: I don't go
to many bars. There is one that I'm at every Tuesday to sing
karaoke. I'ts called Jumps. It's an awesome bar, the dj is
cool, the bartender sings and rocks out, and the atmosphere is
friendly. I love it. 9:30pm - 2am.
PUBS: On the other
hand, I love a good pub. It has a better atmosphere and usaully
better beer selections. Again, I only go out w/ my friends or a
date. I don't go by myself. Where's the fun in that?
CLUBS: I've never
been to one. I'm not the club type of guy. If you wanna go with
your girls, that's fine, but I ain't tagging along.
How can one totally define oneself in a summary such
as this? I've tried my best so far, but it's impossible to know who
I am in entirely just by reading a few paragraphs. So if you want
to know more, I do believe you'll have to do it the old fashioned
way by asking me yourself.
Now I'll just jump into what i'm looking for. I don't know. Easy to sum it
up right there. How about we start off with a first date and take
it from there. :D I just got divorced so I'm not LOOKING to get
into a long-term relationship that ends in marriage, BUT that does
not mean I won't be open to one. I dont' care too much about age. A
few years older or a few years younger is fine w/ me. Please, no
one under the age of 18 and if you're still in highschool I think
you probably have a little more growing up to do before you date a
guy with a kid. My theory on dating right now is one day at a time,
one date at a time. Take it easy and see where it goes.
Oh, if I don't message you right away after I put you on my
favorites list don't take it personally. I can be a chickensh*t
when it comes to simple things like that. I usually will send a WTF
report before I even message someone (and after I add them to my
favorites.) "Why" might you ask? Because I'd like some more
information about you without playing 5 billion questions. You've
already answered them right? Might as well see why it doesn't say
"100%" compatable with each other.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
(Updated: 08/02/08)
I *gasp* live at home. I'm divorced (she's gay. i'm over it,
mostly). My son lives w/ me all of the time now. My exwife just
joined the Army so now I have my son fulltime. That won't stop me
from making plans with you, though, if you're special. :p
I am gainfully employed as a construction testing technition. Want
more explanation? I'll bore you w/ it later ;p It would be suffice
to say that I GENERALLY work Mon-Fri 7am-7pm and Sat 7am-4pm. That
probably would classify me as a workaholic, but I make pretty good
money (unfortunately it's not enough to survive on my own w/ a 2 yr
old boy).
My plan for the future includes owning my own home within 5
years.
I go out every Tuesday night to sing karaoke at a bar (I won't say
which one for fear of stalker types {not that I'm vain enough to
really think that I'm stalkable material but you can never be TOO
safe online}). If I start dating you regularly I might ask you to
come with me.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Reading, watching movies, first-person shooter games. I'm a decent
singer, and I'm working on my cooking abilities. *gasp* A man that
cooks? Can it be? Yes. I get it from my father. He's been cooking
since I can remember. So I have a good example. My mom cooks too,
BTW. She didn't leave that to him. They just cook different things.
I give pretty good massages.
Ok. I'm decent at math. To prove it I'd like to solve out for you
one of the easiest questions that OKCupid has to ask us. Now it
saddens me that some people can't get the question correct. I don't
place it highly on my match questions because I don't expect
someone to be able to solve it to be a match with me... it just
dissapoints when they can't do it. Ok. Here's the question.
If the price of an apple was raised 50% and then decreased 50%,
making it cost $0.75, how much was the original price?
We're going to solve this equation in reverse of what it is given.
The ending price is $.75 . So if it was decreased by %50 to get
$.75 then the price before it was $1.50. Then the question states
that it was raised by 50% from its previous price. So that would
mean that the price was increased by half again what the price
started as. If we look at that expressed correctly it would be the
price multiplied by 150%. If 150% is equal to $1.50, then the
origional price of 100% would be $1.00. Do you follow the math now?
Quickly! Go change your answer! I just helped you cheat on the test
:p
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
My eyes. Are they
hazel? Are they blue? Are they green? Stare into these orbs and try
to figure out for yourself. I've yet to be able to.
I shaved my beard down to a goatee. I won't, however, ever shave
completely cause I look like I'm 14. Seriously. It's not
funny.
I have a pretty good sense of humour and I'm very playful.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
(Updated: 08/26/08)
Books: I have
over 150 Star Wars books. Within the last year I have started to
branch out to new books and series. I've just finished reading an
11 book Harry
Turtledove alternate American history series and another
fantasy series of his. I just started reading William Shatner's
Tek series,
it's pretty entertaining but I for the life of me can't find the
fifth book in the series and I don't like shopping online. I have
also read most of Tolkien's work, including the LOTR
trilogy and the Silmarillian. Douglas Adam's The
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. Frank Herbert's
Dune Saga in it's
entirety including the books published by his son and Kevin J.
Anderson after his death. The Postman. I've read a considerable
amount of Michael Crichton's works, all but 4 now. I also want to
read
How to Be a Villain: Evil Laughs, Secret Lairs, Master Plans, and
More. It sounds interesting. Oh. and somewhere in the near
future I plan on rereading all of the classics I read in
highschool. Plato, Aristotle, Shakespeare, Thoreau, Chaucer, just
to name a few. I might even pick up a copy of Mein Kampf so I can
laugh at Hitler more readily. LOL. Anyways. If you have any book
suggestions for me, please do send me a message. :D Ok, so I've
read Ender's Game and its follow up Lusitania series, which was
intriguing. I've recently read a book called The Story of Britain.
It's nonFiction and very well written. The author is Rebecca Fraser
who also wrote Charlette Bronte. I'd very much recommend it to
anyone. I read an awesome series by Robert Buettner called the
Orphanage series that takes place in the near future. His new book
came out and I plan on reading that real soon. I just finished
reading some books by Robert A. Heinlein: 'The Cat Who Walks
Through Walls' and 'To Sail Beyond The Sunset'. He throws in some
nice views on how America as a whole is going down the shitter. I
might read a few more of his books soon. And Today I'm going to buy
a new Star Wars book "Star Wars: Millenium Falcon". It's about the
origins of the ship. Can't wait to read it. Next up on my list?
You'll find out soon enough I guess because I keep updating this
MF'in section! :D
Movies: My
personal DVD collection has now reached over 200. To say that I
like movies would be a massive understatement. I like most movies
including chick flicks, campy horror, scifi, action, and westerns.
I do enjoy black and white movies, but not all the time. Its a mood
thing I think. I don't really enjoy a lot of the "pop culture"
movies like Bring It On. A short list of movies that I do like are
as follows: Star
Wars, Pirates of the Carribean, anything by Kevin Smith, the
LOTR trilogy, the Matrix trilogy, Aliens series, Resident Evil
series, Harry Potter (thanks to my sister who dragged me into it),
Die Hard and Lethal Weapon series, Saving Private Ryan, 300, Sin City, Underworld 1
& 2, anything by Quinten Tarentino, The Sweetest Thing,
Love
Actually, Down With Love, 10 Things I Hate
About You, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Good Luck Chuck, Knocked
Up, Superbad, the Princess Bride, Moulin Rouge, anything by Mel
Brooks, Fight Club, Boondock Saints, White Christmas... I really
could go on forever.
TV: a little known
TV series called Firefly and the movie they made to go w/
it called Serenity, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis,
Battlestar Galactica,
Heroes, Scrubs, How
I Met Your Mother, Family Guy, Futurama, The Simpsons, Terminator: the Sarah
Conner Chronicles, Sliders, Reaper, The Big Bang Theory, 2 1/2
Men. I'll occasionally catch Desperate Housewives, or Brothers and
Sisters, or Lost with my parents, but missing it isn't a life and
death situation. Of course, how the hell could I forget to mention
Eureka? It's the
coolest SciFi show on TV. And now every Friday night I devote to my
son and watching the new (and totally awesome) Cartoon Network show
Star Wars Clone Wars. We always have a blast :D
Music: Country, rock (don't ask me which geonras i
like, I have no idea wtf the differences are. If you want you can
try to explain it to me). I'll listen to classical. I don't like
rap too much except maybe to dance to, but since I don't go out
dancing too often then you can gather how much I listen to it (Yes,
that is a run-on sentence, but I'm leaving it that way). I also
have an affinity for oldies. My favorites being Frank Sinatraand Bing Crosby.
Food: I'm willing
to try most things as far as food is concerned. I LOVE sushi. I just bought a book
on how to prepare sushi and I'll see how that turns out. Pizza is a
staple must in my diet. Sad, I know. There are very few things that
I don't like, so I get along with most people in that area. My mood
does affect what I want to eat, though. I'm open to eat most
anything.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Meh. How specific should I get w/ this crap? lol. I won't list the
naturally oriented (ie: shelter, food, water) cause I think that is
implied.
My son, my computer, a good book. Maybe you? I guess we'll have to
see, eh? I'll leave it at that and maybecome up with something else
later.
AHAH! I'll add another one to the list, My Tuesday night karaoke!
It's how I release some steam :D
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Life, the
Universe, and Everything. If you get that reference then you
might as well message me because we'd hit it off right away.
Seriously though. I ponder a lot of subjects. Depends what movie or
book I've just seen or read, respectively. I read and watch things
that are generally thought provoking, so I can dwell on a subject
for days while I ponder it's intricacies. Like the true meaning
behind the ending of Blade Runner or Logan's Run. I tend to play
out different conversations in my head. I'll also think about what
my reactions would be to certain events in my life. IE: What would
I do if a stranger came up to me with a knife and demanded all my
money. IE: Or conversations with people that I might have and what
I should say to them depending upon what they say to me. Wierd
things like that. I'm a strange cookie.
Recently I've been thinking alot about what songs I want to sing on
Tuesdays for karaoke.... but it's not like an all day thing. I'll
just be listening to the radio and be like "Oh snap, I'm gonna sing
that one next time!". Yeah, I'm a loser. It's cool with me though
:p
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Maybe at home on the computer, watching a movie, reading a book,
doing housework. I might be out at a pub, a movie, or at a friends.
it really depends on when/if i work on saturday. If I do work I
usually don't stay up or out past 11pm. I'm not a loser(imo), I'm
just responsible.
The computer games that I play the most are Battlefield 2142, Call
of Duty 4, and EVE Online. My friend owns an XBOX 360 so we play
Rock Band almost
obsesively. I can't wait until Star Wars Force Unleashed comes out.
That's a definate buy for me.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I'm very open about myself and I tend to share alot. If you want to
know anything then ask me, I'll probably give you an answer about
it. Not as if I haven't given you alot of information already.
You should message me if Propose an edit
(Updated: 08/02/08)
If you seem interested in me and you wanna start
something. Except drama, please no drama... unless you are IN
drama, but seeing how that's a different type of drama than the
previously stated drama, it does not apply, savvy?
If I message you, it's a clear indication that I'm interested in
you. Really. I wouldn't have done it if I wasn't. Sometimes I take
a considerable amount of time reading through your profile and
contemplating what to say to you, trying to "get to know you"
before I decide to message you or not. I also try to figure out if
you are likely to like me in return. I have been known to be wrong
before. SO. If you aren't interested in me, tell me. I took the
time and effort in reaching out to you. You can take the 20 seconds
to hit reply and simply type the words "not interested". How hard
can it be, really? I don't even need an explanation (although I
always welcome one). I'm a man, I can take the rejection.
*Disclaimer* I, like everyone else, can be an jerk. *End
Disclaimer*
Ok. I hate to be an ass, but I AM a tiny bit superficial when it
comes to looks and weight. I'm not asking for you to look like a
super model... I actually prefer the "girl next door". Breast size?
I don't care. Any man who limits a woman by her breasts is a
moron.
Also, it's so wrong to put up a photo of you from 2 years ago. Or
one taken on a cellphone in bad lighting. It's misleading. Please
have recent and clear photos of yourself. I have recent and clear
photos up and if you want more I won't be offended in you asking to
see them. I don't consider myself shallow, but I need both
intellectual AND physical attraction for a relationship to work. I
think most people would agree.
Which brings me to my last point. Here's a hint: I judge whether I
want to message a woman by what is written in her profile. Now if I
like how she looks but there is scant information in her profile,
then how do I know if she's my "type". How do I know that I'd be
willing to go on a date with her? I don't. So be kind and actually
put some information about yourself. It's not like I didn't take
the time to do it too.
