I enjoy reading & talking about philosophy, ancient history, Jungian/Analytical psychology, sociology, genetics, biology, religion, mythology and sciences of all sorts, as well as any other subject I can manage to wrap my head around. To give you an idea of the kinds of things I read & think a good deal about; I have a penchant for reading ancient religious texts so I can try and understand why humanity has insisted on believing in such non-sense for so long. I also find it interesting that there were so many different, competing ideas on what it meant to be a christian, and how Christianity should be thought of & defined. The history surrounding the process of deciding & codifying what would be considered 'orthodox christiantiy', who those people were who made those decisions, as well as how it eventually won out over the other competing 'non-orthodox' ideologies that existed in the first few centuries after Jesus' death is something I find fascinating. I have this same desire in understanding all the organized religions of the world, both dead and those still in practice, though I'm most knowledgeable of early Christianity and how it came about. I also have an interest in dead languages such as ancient Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Sumerian, Egyptian Hieroglyphs, et cetera. I've not been very successful in teaching myself anything other than a few words and phrases, but I would love to take some classes in them.
I was born with a birth defect called Spina Bifida, and I've had over 30 surgeries so far in my life, including having my right leg amputated below the knee. As a result I get around using a wheelchair or crutches. Consequently, I'm not the most active or outdoorsy person since I'm not able to spend great periods of time away from civilization. Spending a nite or two somewhere remote is probably doable but beyond that isn't a viable option for me.
I'm an avid listener and seeker of new music of most any style, and I'm quite proud of my collection of 500+ albums which in terms of genre and style run the gamut. I also enjoy going to concerts when I can make it, which is not nearly as often as I'd like these days.
I love to read both fiction & non-fiction, especially history and science, and I'm not averse to learning new things. Wikipedia for the win! I'm also a pretty romantic guy. I don't consider myself overly sappy or anything, I'm just in tune with my feelings and very comfortable with expressing them.
I'm a staunch libertarian and atheist, and I enjoy some drug use [smoking marijuana and taking hallucinogens]. I imagine that sorta thing might be deal breakers for some; so I'm letting it be known that I'm into that from the start. I just hope I don't get my door kicked in by the fuzz in the middle of the nite. I also enjoy playing video games & computer games, and I also have a desire to play pen & paper D&D.
