Bonus additional reasons!
Optimism, steadfastness, and the confidence to sing as if no one is listening
Who am I looking for? You should be most if not all of the above, although don't worry about the vocabulary part too much. I'll help you study for the quiz (third date). My favorite song quote puts it best: "We were never being bored/'cause we were never being boring." Above all, be interesting. I promise I will do my best to do the same.
Addendum: I have noticed some guys put their Myers-Briggs types on here, so I'm in. I'm an ENTJ. Google it.
What I’m doing with my life
My main focus in the recent past has been career. I am both a full-time school teacher and a part-time tutoring business owner, so clearly much of my time goes to these. I feel, however, that as rewarding and fulfilling both of these have been, I would like to build a different type of rewarding and fulfilling with new friends and with any luck a new mate. So what am I doing with my life? What I have always done: going after what I want with all I have.
I’m really good at
I'm really good at problem-solving, listening, and discerning the difference between what is urgent and what is important. I am also an accomplished wordsmith, an amateur dart thrower, and an expert at finding the humor in just about everything.
The first things people usually notice about me
The first thing you will notice about me is my smile. Trite, but true. Second would be my command of language. I have heard that guys go crazy for another guy with a really, really big...vocabulary! Who knows what you will see next? You will just have to find out for yourself!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books, Non-fiction: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, and Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely.
Books, Fiction: Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, and anything by Michael Crichton or Tom Clancy.
Movies: I'm a typical guy about this one. Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, and superhero stuff are my favorites. I loved Starship Troopers and can quote liberally from all the Harry Potter movies.
Shows: I don't always watch television, but when I do, I watch The Big Bang Theory. Stay nerdy, my friends.
Music: Everything from Linkin Park, Muse, Green Day, and Nine Inch Nails to Celine Dion, Barry Manilow, Barbra Streisand, and Whitney Houston. If you can sing to it, I like it! I also like Enya, Adiemus, and most classical music. Moreover, I like the dance and pop stuff that they play at my gym. I am not a fan of twangy country or Cantonese opera.
Food: Flavorful and spicy! I am a fan of foods that contain vanilla, hazelnut, apricots, jalapeños, or cilantro--but not all at the same time! I like dry Italian sausage, and I am a sucker for just about any kind of cheese. I love red wine enough to know that zinfandel and petit syrah rock, and that 10% cab franc can save a merlot and cabernet sauvignon blend.
The six things I could never do without
(1) Gravity. Although when I drop something on my foot, I find myself quoting Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory) "Gravity, thou art a heartless bitch!" I could not do without it.
(2) Pizza. Need I explain?
(3) Music. Never underestimate the emotional power of just the right tune at just the right time.
(4) Walmart. It has just about everything. Sometimes I go just to see the "People of Walmart" when I think I am taking myself too seriously.
(5) Proper punctuation. Nothing says "I love you" like a properly punctuated passage of text. If I were ever to get a tattoo, I would get an interrobang. If you don't know what that is, check it out--it might make you smile.
(6) Love. According to the Beatles, love is all you need. I am not, however, of the opinion that love makes the world go 'round, since it is the conservation of angular momentum from the coalescence of the Terran portion of the Sun's accretion disk that really makes the world go 'round, but who am I to say that love didn't play a part in that?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend most of my time thinking about my kids at school. I do not have the power to prepare the future for them, but I do have the power to prepare them for the future. I see them as my legacy and my bid for a degree of immortality.
On a typical Friday night I am
Since I work in a very people-oriented field that requires me to be "on" most of the week, on a typical Friday night I am pleased to be able to be "off." Sometimes I will hang out with a friend, sometimes read, sometimes watch a movie, play a stupid video game, or go shopping. Maybe I will want to try what YOU do on a Friday night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Surely this is a trick question! The most private thing I am willing to admit.... I'll start light for now. The first time I heard "Love Story" by Taylor Swift, I cried. I didn't even cry for the obvious reason: how COULD the songwriter bastardize Romeo and Juliet the way he did? I cried because I was so deeply joyful that two people (fictional though they may be) were experiencing the bliss that comes from a perfectly matched love. I count myself lucky to have lived within that bliss a couple of times already. I hope you have or soon will, too.
