gregarious, imaginative, and playful
My self-summary Propose an edit
I think my friends would describe me as a very warm, sociable guy
who is happiest when I'm making other people smile (or causing
other hi-jinks to ensue...).
I am also at my blissful best when engaged in artful conversation
with friends, making or listening to music, enthralled in a
thought-provoking book, recreating outdoors (especially bicycling,
or anything that happens in or on the water), homebrewing, etc...
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
In my professional life, I do outreach including graphic and web
design for a non-profit environmental organization I care about
deeply. I'm lucky enough to work from home, though the
telecommuting is growing old after several years, and I'm looking
for a local gig where I get to see people in person through work
more often.
Personally, I have a lot of interests (as described above), and
stay busy as a very involved parent to two awesome young kids. I'm
actually surprised how much time I am able to carve out for my
other interests and for going out.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
From what others tell me, I'm at least reasonably good at (in no
particular order) making people laugh, cooking, telling stories,
singing, building things from entirely salvaged materials, hosting
parties, kissing...
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
My height (I'm 6' 1" and skinny, so people usually think I'm taller
than that), long hair, and (hopefully) approachable
smile/personality.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books:I love a variety of fiction (especially dystopian
novels and sci-fi), poetry and nature writing. Favorite authors
include folks like Joseph Heller, Kurt Vonnegut, Ursula Le Guin,
Jim Harrison, Philip Pullman, Orson Scott Card, Starhawk, Daniel
Quinn, Barry Lopez, Bill McKibben, Douglas Adams, Robert Heinlein,
Tom Robbins, Annie Dillard, Gary Snyder, Stephen Dunn, Robert
Frost, Elizabeth Bishop, Hayden Curruth...
Film and TV:When it comes to movies, I can appreciate any
drama, comedy or art house film with an engaging story and
characters that are developed beyond cardboard cutouts. A couple
favorites off the top of my head, though there are MANY others,
include Shortbus, Being John Malkovitch, Life as a House, Harold
and Maude, animated films by Hayao Miyazaki--especially Howl's
Moving Castle, and anything Monty Python.
I eschew TV as it's being broadcast, but occasionally a series will
be worth Netflixing, such as The West Wing and the ill-fated but
best series ever, Firefly. The L Word is also entertaining, but for
different reasons than most things I watch :)
Music:I like to listen to and occasionally make music in
many forms and most genres; I've especially gotten into the local
improvisational music scene lately, but am usually up for just
about any live show.
Eats:My favorite foods include Thai, Indian, Chinese,
Italian, Mexican.... I specialize in cooking pizzas and baked goods
from scratch, pestos, stir fries, and any dessert that's reasonably
decadent. I have a weakness for ice cream, good cheese, spicy and
salty food, frozen or exciting drinks, and any other food that
melts in your mouth (or on your skin).
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
nature, good food and drink, all forms of touch, music, an
enthralling read, and my family.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Big and small things like how to save the world, which flavor of
Stewarts ice cream to get this week, building community...
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Out enjoying local live music or art, hanging with friends, biking
somewhere, watching Netflix, drinking...
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I was once stopped by both the US and Canadian border patrol, and
by the police, all in one night...and still made it home unscathed
(don't worry, my law-breaking days are mostly behind me now :). Oh,
and I know all three English words that rhyme with Orange...

are open minded about dating someone who is in a committed, but
open/poly type, relationship.
