My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.

Well first things first, I'm interested in almost everything. I mean that, if a subject comes up in conversation that I don't know about, odds are that I'd very much like to know about it, somebody really has to work at being boring to bore me!

I generally get on with just about everybody, though I am rather shy about approaching people. I'm fine once I get talking to them, but I really would rather people come and chat to me first, I hope that's okay. I'm fine when I get talking to people, in fact I talk quite a lot, but I really feel nervous about pinging people out of the blue, ---- not to mention I often worry I'm talking a lot of, ---- well you know what.

As far as the photo goes, ---- well I'm really sorry it's a profile shot, there's no really sinister reason for this except that it was the most recent photo I had. I am trying to get another one so will update things at that point. I'm medium height, moderately strongly built, with glasses, slightly untidy dark hair (though no lightning shaped scar I'm afraid), blue eyes. The site states that I'm apparently more optimistic --- and I suppose this is generally true, since i like to believe the best of individuals ---- big organisations like countries, companies governments etc are something of a different matter.

Well I suppose I'd better move on to some concrete facts about myself here. I'm doing a Phd in philosophy, hence my inability to mix the correct type of conversational cement to glue facts together. the subject of my Phd thesis is Ethics and equality, particularly on the practical everyday level. Yes! practical! philosophy!

I should probably also say here, that I most emphatically believe that everything in life is for enjoying, this isn't to say there aren't problems, just that we should think of life as more good than bad, and full of unexpected fish ------ sorry!

I don't philosophise constantly though, I have an extremely wide taste in music from classical and film soundtracksto progressive rock, with film scores, Pink Floyd, Lennard Kohan, John Williams, Prokoffiev and Rak maninov as a selection of just a few of my favourites. I really can't stand a lot of pop music or rap I'm afraid, anything that's off key tends to be painful to me, and I really dislike stuff with boring cord sequences (this isn't to say all pop though).

In my spare time I read a great deal, well ---- that's a bit of an understatement, with me books rank about second only to oxygen on the list of things necessary to keep me alive. I especially like science fiction and fantasy. I of course love the Harry Potter books, and I've grown up reading the works of J.R.R. Tolkeen like Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion.

I've read many of the Sf classics by authors like Isac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Frank Herbert, Anne Mccaffry, Ursula Leguin. I also love many less well known fantasy or Sf authors like Tad Williams, Jack Vance, or Fredric Pohl.

I'm also into some very off the wall stuff, such as Neel Gayman and that wonderful novel by Susan Clark.

I'm not limited to weird stuff though, I read a variety of other things, such as the odd horror by authors like Steven King, James Herbert, or Graham Masterton, the odd well-written thriller novel or even historical fiction by authors like Mary Stewart or Bernard Cornwell.

I don't watch much tv, but love seeing Films, (or movies as people of the US would call them). I rather like long running series with an ongoing plot, again mostly Sf or fantasy. Some of my favourites include Starwars, Firefly, Labyrinth, The tenth Kingdom, and once in a while Star trek next generation. Oh yes, I've also recently discovered the joys of Babylon 5. It's probably for this reason that the site claims I'm geekier than other males my age ---- but if so, up with the geeks!

Though I'm no expert on the subject, I've also seen a few good Anime, such as Kenshin, Keeno's journey,Spirited away, Kenshin, or of course Neon Genesis of Evangelion,

As you have probably guessed, I spend most of my time on other philosophical planets, but when I actually drop in on earth, I've got a rather nice flat in the city of Durham, with some very eclectic decoration.

I do do a fair amount of other things besides reading and watching Dvd's. I'm a fairly serious Tenor and musician. I've sung in choirs, and given short one man shows, but my great love is performing in Musicals, and especially Gilbert and sullivan, though I'm not at all keen on grand opera. So what do I play? Well various things, I'm a fair Pianist, and also play the Flute. I was once a Folk musician, so learned to play the Accordian, as well as various Recorders, and traditional English Pipes.

When I've got the time, and can face the hideously evil spider's web of technical nastiness that is my multi track recorder, I also compose my own music.

In addition I write short stories, I'd love to write a novel, but everytime I try I end up getting lost somewhere along the line ---- I'll do it one day though. Thankfully whilst writing I don't have to cope with any technical spiders of doom! (well not unless they're part of the plot anyway).

I also enjoy traveling, though having been in full time higher education for quite a while I haven't been able to do as much as I'd like. after my PhD is finished though, I'd love to spend a year going to different countries such as India, Japan, countries in Africa, or possibly Rumania, but that's a few years off yet.

The city of Durham, where I'm living most of the time at the moemnt, is a small town surrounded by countryside, and while I'M NOT THE SORT OF PERSON WHO HIKES FOR DAYS ON END, I DO like an odd WALK OR CYCLE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE.

I'm afraid I'm not interested at all in playing, or watching sport, though I do lift weights, run or go canoeing every so often (it's good for my voice).

At some point, I'd love to take up Cross country skiing,, it's something i did a few years ago and can't wait to try again when I get the chance, ---- oh to the evils of a life of academic study!

If you ask me what my religion is, I'll tell you I'm a Universalist, but I can't really go into a huge discussion of MY BELIEFS ABOUT God HERE, I've already rambled on more than enough in this profile.

If you like the sound of me, please get in touch. I would very much rather you contact me than the other way around, if that's alright. You might want to take my "Are you my perfect partner test" to learn a bit MORE about me, I've written the test so that the answers that score best are also the answers I myself would give, so it's a sort of two way test, for me and you.

Oh heck! I've just rambled on and on for ages! It's amazing how you can write these things once you've started! I'm really sorry for making you read all this drivel.

I am philosophical, relaxed, and individualistic
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Trying to enjoy it as much as possible.

I spend a lot of time doing what I just went on about in my profile ---- also trying to make the world's first thought powered, polkadot, robotic badger ----- well okay, not that, but it's about time for a litle randomness here.

Sorry my sense of humour can be a litle weird i'm afraid.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Well, since I'm now taking a PhD in it, I hope I'm at least passable at philosophy especially ethics. I do a lot of creative things, like writing singing and composing, but whether they're good or not is for the reader/listener to decide.

I also try my best to help out anyone, especially my friends, who might need me. But again, I don't feel I'm really in a position to say whether I'm good at this or not, I hope I am, but that's for other people to decide not me.

I'm also the world's best purple Snargulator rider though sadly I haven't actually found one to ride.

Sorry! must be less random.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
This is a hard one, I'm me! how do I know what others notice. About descriptions though i have thick dark hair, which used to be very long but isn't anymore, glasses, and I'm told I have a nice speaking or singing voice (though people could just be being kind). I tend to wear fairly weird shirts, usually with dragons on them, that's about all I can think of thus far.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Sooooooooo many books I'll try by author: Jrr. Tolkeen, various. Harry Potter (of course). anything by Tad Williams, Midnight's children by Salman Rushdi, The Valley of Fear by Arthur Conan Doyle, (not to mention the rest of the Holmes stories, though imho valley of fear is his best), and loads more. it would probably take me a very long time to list them all.

In films, I like a lot of things. The starwars films, Serenity, and various musicals Phantom of the opera, Moulin rouge, and the Lion King, to name but a few. to name Generally I prefer books in their original form to film adaptations, Harry Potter is a prime example, and the second two Lord of the rings films.

Occasionally though there will be a film that really does justice to the book like the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, or Tim Burton's recent adaptation of Charley and the Chocolate factory. I'm waiting to see what's happening with the golden compass I should probably also explain here, that I see nothing wrong in watching the odd Children's film or reading a children's book, and I would judge them good or bad on the same criteria I use on anything else.

Food: Again, I've got lots of favourites, particularly incredibly dark chocolate and well made ground coffee. I always prefer hot, cooked meals to cold ones or fast food. while there are one or two things such as tomatoes in a solid state that really make me feel ill, I'm fairly adventurous when it comes to food, I recently tried fried chicken feet for example (I didn't particularly like them, but at least I tried them). On the subject of cooking, I'm rather proud of the fact that I can vaguely cook, and since I last got my flat I've been experimenting, ---- though annoyingly with working, singing and everything else I do not always get as much time to experiment as I would like
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.

My mind pluss my five senses. The world is here for enjoying after all.

That's too short an answer though, so here's a few more ideas.

My friends, my freedom, sunlight, starlight, moonlight, the many many others! Authors I like, nice surroundings, music I can lose myself in, baths with interesting smelling things in them , my keyboard, my ability to sing from bottom A to top B flat, Dove conditioner, Cologne, my coffee grinder and some good beans to put in it, good dark chocolate, Goolash, weird things to talk about, jasmine tea, occasional trips to restaurants, strange concoctions to drink (sometimes with alcohol), philosophy, my synaesthesia (yes I'm synaesthesic, and it's great! if you haven't heard of synaesthesia, don't panic, it's not some weird desease or mental illness, it's just the way some of my senses work), the internet, wikipedia in particular (I love looking up random facts), nice things to pass when I go for walks such as the trees on my road, animals in general and my dog (though I have to go home to see her), thunderstorms, my parents, fresh fruite juice, randomness, moonlight, sunsets, scented candles, my rather nice indian throw rug, my odd collection of statues and other weird things, my friends, and random performances I'm involved with. I'm weird and proud of it!

Sinse it seems fair I'll add a few dislikes, there won't be many though, since i generally like things more than I dislike them.

tomatoes, stereotypes, people without opinions, intellectual snobs, closed mindedness, cold meals, people who don't believe in love, formal logic, intollerance (It's so tempting to put "and the french" here, but it wouldn't be true), Tony Blair, night clubs, people who only like to get drunk, things that show no individual creativity whatsoever, and arrogance.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Life the universe and everything!

Life, love, and the persuit of happiness!

Liberty, equality, creativity, and many other good things ending in ity.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I might be out watching films or having highly convoluted discussions with my friends.

I could just as easily stay in and read, watch Dvd's, do something vaguely musical or any of the other stuff I've just been going on about.

I might also be out rehearsing for a production on Friday nights, it depends on what date they set the rehearsal (it was Fridays last year), I might even be tabletop roleplaying since that's also something I do a bit of. Now and again.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
It's not exactly private, sinse I've splashed it all over my profile, but while I can certainly be very social AT TIMES, I often feel rather SHY, HENCE MY PREFERENCE FOR YOU TO MAIL ME, RATHER THAN THE OTHER WAY ROUND. It's weird, I'm quite capable (though extremely nervous), of getting onto a stage in front of many people and singing or acting at them, but I really don't feel right about approaching a complete stranger. Oh well, I'm weird.

Also, I really have to say that I'm not great at unexpected physical contact. I'm sorry if this puts people off, just if I'm with someone and their going to try the physical affection thing, ---- hugging, holding hands, I'd really rather they warn me first.

Once I'm warned I'm okay, but the warning is incredibly important.

Again, I'm sorry about this.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You like the sound of having interesting chats with me, either just as friends, maybe to lead on to something more? --- or maybe not.

But please bare in mind, i'd much rather you approach me than the other way around, since I don't really feel comfortable about messaging people I don't know from out of nowhere.
