I am geeky, curious, and shy.
My Self-Summary
Soon to be out of college, I'm a real geek, always plodding away
finding new stuff on the internet and sharing it with my friends
and family. I'm into
technology,
science,
philisophic pondering,
the
internet,
3D printing,
open
source softwareand
gadgets. It takes a little while to get
me to open up, but once I do, I'm very affectionate.
Essay time!
I define myself by the thoughts that go spinning through my head in
the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes I catch myself trying to
imagine what people from previous decades or centuries would thing
if they hopped across an Einstein-Rosen-Podolsky bridge to the
current era, or what some interesting geometry would look like from
a different scale, or what it would feel like to be some other kind
of creature.
I'm a singularitarian, fervently devoted to the ever hastening
march of technology. If you don't know what that means, I can
recommend some reading that will make your head spin.
I'm more easily described as shy than gregarious. An introvert,
always with his nose buried in slashdot comments or the minutiae of
a proposed project. It takes a little bit of effort to get to know
me and bring me out of my shell, but I've been trying my best to be
a little bit friendlier.
Physically, I'm not in the best shape either. A bit overweight, and
not exactly the most muscular of people. That's another thing I've
been working on. It's a singularitarian effort, always seeking
self-improvement somewhere.
I've been known to engage in flights of fancy when the mood
strikes, and it often does. If I catch an adventuresome hair I'll
wander miles out of my way chasing the object of my curiosity. I've
been caught in the basements of libraries amused by the dusty
collections of reference material and climbing trees just because
they're there. My favorite wanderings are devoted to cityscapes.
Places are as alive as people, in some ways. There's always
something new out there to discover, and I want to see it
all!
I'm stretching now, trying to find something else about myself that
I can make seem interesting in order to reach the word count for
the extra 5% on my profile. That's another of my curious neuroses,
but seeing the number of people relentlessly grinding achievements
in their lives, perhaps it's not too uncommon. Maybe I just like my
goals to be a little bit more concrete? I don't even know myself,
but life is just one of those processes of gradual awareness.
What I’m doing with my life
Graduating college, Getting a good job, and keeping up with the
times! The world is changing faster every day, and if you don't
keep up, you'll get lost!
I’m really good at
Writing, English, New tech and basic science. I'm pretty good at
learning how to fake proficiency in any number of fields, but
mastery takes practice I don't have time for!
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm shy, but really trying my best to meet new people. I'm also
rather clueless, perhaps even going so far as to say gullible at
times.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I like books by Charles Stross or Warren Ellis, the classics of
science fiction, and the stiff right out there on the bleeding
edge. Near-future sci-fi and anything that addresses the topic of
the singularity is also a plus.
As for movies, I like Scifi.. obviously. But more than that, I like
movies with thinky plotlines or interesting cosmologies.
In music, I don't have much taste. I know a few kinds I don't like,
and lots of kinds I do. Lots of kinds of electronic music,
nerdcore, and the occasional pop song get stuck in my
playlist.
I like ethnic foods. Americana is almost as bland as english food,
the good stuff comes from other places. Mediterranian, Mexican,
Asian. Those are the good stuff.
The six things I could never do without
Outside of the standard hierarchy of needs;
Computer things - Internet access, a home server, my cell phone,
Google services, and a good keyboard.
Personal things - comfortable clothing, regular showers, a good
desk chair, and a nice stiff toothbrush.
Edible things - Cheap (bad) Lo Mein, Ramen, Enchiladas.
Nostalgic things - My small but personal library, and my slowly
growing collection of knickknacks.
Philisophical things - the concept of accelerating returns, the
questions regarding separation of body and mind, and the
implications of the universe as a simulation.
Random things - the sensation of fog condensing on my skin at three
in the morning, the listlessness of having accomplished a project
and not wanting to get started on another, and links shared by
people I don't know but found interesting on twitter.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The impending technological singularity and what the effects of the
rapid expansion of the internet will be in hindsight.
On a typical Friday night I am
At home, browsing the web and catching up on everything that
happened the last week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
My roommates are also my boyfriends!
You should message me if
You don't mind getting to know me /and/ my boyfriends.
