My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
The lightness of being. Isn't that what it's about, balancing what is light in your life with what is heavy, or what is bright with what is shadow?

After you pass through the rainforest of my mind's own events, you will find me teaching college (English literature) and doing a great deal of (creative) writing, writing, writing! Life has become almost a non-stop eye-opening intellectual and emotional experience, because of the flood of learning that descends on me from smart, radiant friends.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Besides being a professor, I am also a fiction writer and poet, fancy myself a psychologist, am relatively witty, can sing a ditty, am prone to sudden rhyming and will make you guffaw. I am a mix of Hungarian and Colombian (!) and look pretty young for my age. I like to study the world, especially through its people (characters). I like the occasional documentary, interesting comics, operas, ballets, black coffee, dark beer, excellent food (did I mention that I cook?) and visiting other cultural cites and countries (last summer I went to Spain). I am constantly amazed by the wonders of art. In particular, the works of Henry James and Milan Kundera are sensational; Mahler and Holst; U2 and Bjork. I am almost as constantly annoyed by the badness of would-be art. I am quite rational-minded and detest prejudice in all its forms. I seem to have, at first unconsciously, picked up a somewhat anti-consumerist attitude. That is, it has become increasingly easy to see not only how a capitalist culture gets in the way of ethical progress but also how much happier you can be once you build up an immunity to buying "the new thing" and let yourself be satisfied from the wonder of the human. I try to immerse myself in the minds of those I know and love.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
It would be nice to find people to explore the intense culture that nyc offers, from independent film to museums to musical events to excellent village eats, bar hopping, dancing, a more jeans-and-artsy kind of night--my personality has many sides, and is eager to learn. If you are coming into NYC from somewhere else and want to meet for a little while, that's fine too. More specifically: I am looking for intelligent women, and the possibility of romantic attachments. I dislike labels, but I'll toss some out so that we can actually communicate here: I have been attracted to hippies, academics, people who want art but are living repressed lives, writers, actors, and serene people. Over the years I've realized that the best women for me have what I call a "poetic sensibility." Also, I believe that a fully realized love is non-jealous and non-possessive, and can only exist where you give up the idea of 'owning' your partner(s) in any way. Therefore, you should be fine with just dating freely or having an open relationship, though that can still become quite serious and include being committed to each other. If you know about the philosophy of polyamory, that's even better (perhaps you too realize how many of our social problems are due to metaphors of possession).

Oh, I like taking trips, and have a lot of free time in the summer.
