Before selling my soul to try to sell you underwear, juice, and processed meat, I was a journalist and freelance writer.
The movies I like tend to have high meta-critic quotients and (relatively) low budgets. Here's an unnecessarily thorough and recognizable sample set: The Big Lebowski, Blade Runner, Before Night Falls, City of God, The Lives of Others, Star Wars, District 9, Alien (but so not any of the others), The Secret In Their Eyes, Oldboy, Big Trouble In Little China, Rushmore, Apocalypse Now, Heat, Carlos, Exit Through The Gift Shop, Cocaine Cowboys, King of Kong, Synecdoche, New York, Adaptation...I could go on forever here, but I won't.
My eyeballs are in perpetual conflict about the choice between books (mostly novels with the occasional Fast Food Nation) and magazines (The New Yorker and The Atlantic, with the occasional New York Magazine that I'll pick up at a friend's apartment because I'm drawn to an article about artisan hamburger meat).
Music is good. I listen to it pretty much all day, every day. Highlights include Underworld, Radiohead, Grand National, Talking Heads, Fela, Air, Orbital, Girl Talk, The Pet Shop Boys, MJ, The Boss, Beck, Die Antwoord, Sade, Coldcut, Bonobo, Hybrid, The Dan, Cypress Hill, Orgone, Biggie, The Roots, Weezy, Ikebe Shakedown, Budos Band, Rick Ross, Royksopp, RJD2, Thievery Corp, Amon Tobin, Stereolab, Pizzicato 5, Kodomo, Freddie Gibbs, Yeasayer, Nujabes, etc.
I see shows. But not as much as I'd like to. Let's do that.
