My self-summary
I like figuring out how things work, be it society, people, ecosystems, or fuzzy animals. I read a lot (but not as much as I wish I did). I like parenthesis (especially nested parenthesis). Sometimes I end sentences with prepositions, but I usually feel guilty afterward. I love learning, and ever since I got a smart phone, I compulsively look things up on Wikipedia. Did you know camels can drink 40 gallons of water in one go? I just looked that up earlier today while I was riding a camel. I like riding all sorts of things, and in addition to riding camels in Egypt, I have ridden horses in Argentina, elephants in Thailand, several baby elephant seals in Santa Cruz, and a giant turtle in San Diego. That last one was in a zoo, and I almost got kicked out.

I collect skills and hobbies (specialization is for insects). I rock climb (along with everyone else in the bay area), dance blues, and occasionally embarrass myself at yoga. I've also enjoyed sailing, wind surfing, scuba, wing tsun, picking locks, and various types of social dance. Sometimes I wonder how much of this is due to playing too many RPGs as a kid.

I like video games, but not the kind that eat your life. Oh, and I really like eating. And cooking. I don't get to cook much nowadays, 'cuz my work feeds me. I like my job, and not just because I get food. Maybe a little bit because of the food.

I love to travel, and I like to do it cheaply. I love art, but am pretty picky about what I consider that to be. I make people laugh, and treasure the ones that can do the same. Sometimes I make really bad puns. Usually, they are pretty good, though. I get bored easily, and I hate being bored. I am analytical and introspective. I question my actions, and my motives, and always try to be a better person.

My friends are really important to me, and I cherish each one of them. I like sharing my life with other people, and tend to draw others into my social group.
What I’m doing with my life
Filling the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds worth of distance run.

Which mostly means work, friends, side projects, and hobbies. And travelling. I heart travelling.
I’m really good at
Solving problems. Avoiding hard work.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love books. Especially ones that have neat ideas or philosophies. My favorite authors are Neil Stephenson (Diamond Age, Cryptonomican, Baroque Cycle, ...) Neal Gaiman, Umberto Eco, Ian Banks, Greg Egans, Robert Heinlein, and Terry Pratchett. It's hard to list all the authors that have had an impact, but very few things enrich my life as much as good books. The last book I really enjoyed was Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

My favorite moves include Shawshank Redemption, The Matrix, Fifth Element, and The God Father. I have a thing for mafia movies, but I am not sure why. I also like good TV shows, like Firefly, Coupling, Arrested Development, West Wing, and (don't judge) Californication. I tend to download them in bulk, and binge-watch the whole series.

My music tastes have been described as "eclectic", but are based on a solid foundation of female vocalists (Vienna Teng, Tory Amos, Regina Spector) with a mishmash of other things thrown in.

Food. I love food. All kinds of food. I really like salmon. Raw salmon, grilled salmon, baked salmon, smoked salmon. Hamachi and Unagi sushi. Lamb anything. Cheese, especially melted cheese. Coffee and dark chocolate, especially together.
The six things I could never do without
Good friends, good books, good food, interesting work, cute animals, and new things to learn.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to be a better person and how to make the world a better place.
On a typical Friday night I am
Out dancing, seeing a play, eating, or chilling with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Sometimes I wear my cat as a hat.
