I am honest, funny, and creative.

My Self-Summary

Hi my name's Dave, I studied design and I've been lucky it's taken me to work in several different countries around the world. Last year I was living in Italy. I love travelling and learning different places from the inside. I also love the outdoors and climbing in the mountains whenever I can. I've got a wide range of interests including comedy, music, books, science, history, lively debate, mountains, photography, architecture, food, wine

I'm creative but I'm also pragmatic I guess that comes from being a part artist and part engineer, which produces all kinds of other opposing values.

What I’m doing with my life

This is rather embarrassing to admit but since I decided to come home and leave my job at possibly the worst time in a decade I have joined the ranks of the unemployed. Come back in 2-6 months and you will hopefully find a securely employed upright member of society.

Mostly I've been; visiting friends and family around the UK, doing the shopping, walking the dog, clearing up possessions, trying to connect with the UK industry, working out, creating my portfolio, going to interviews and events, visiting my 94 year old grandmother.. all fairly worthy things to do but can't replace a full-time and rewarding job.

Last year was a good busy one; I drove across a continent and back, I moved to the other side of the world, I skied, I climbed, I toured factories, I took 3 lifts up 86 storeys, I got a decent pay packet, my Grandfather died (not good) - this year has been a bit slower.

There now I've told you more than I normally would on first meeting - and we've not even met (NB: consider deleting some of this)

I’m really good at

Creating/making things, listening to people.

I can make pasta sauce and Chinese dumplings that are quite edible.

The first things people usually notice about me

I don't know that of course but people often get my age wrong, either older or younger depending on whether I'm speaking or not.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Lord of the Rings, Stephen Hawking, Richard Dawkins, Oscar Wilde, Catcher in the Rye, I don't really read much but when I find something I like I really appreciate it. One of my favourites was A Fine Balance.

Pulp Fiction, Withnail and I, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Dr Stangelove, can't think of any others right now

I gave away my TV about five years ago, which made a massive difference to my life. Since the TV as re-entered my life via my computer I do watch a few things. And a few old and new favourites are: Blackadder, University Challenge, Yes Minister, Red Dwarf!, QI, Top Gear, The West Wing

Music: Radiohead, the Beatles, Led Zep, The Clash, The Cure, Bjork, Belle and Sebastian, Soul... these days I normally press 'shuffle songs'

Radio: From Our Own Correspondent, Just a Minute

The six things I could never do without

Hope, hope and hope

A plan

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How society and beings have evolved to the state they are in now, how people interact with each other, how many objects are crappy and hard to use and badly designed.

On a typical Friday night I am

Friday night is not a particularly special night for me. I'll be doing whatever I might normally be doing. Maybe go round to a friend's house, go out for a drink, surfing the internet, even working...

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I recently watched both The Sound of Music and Rambo: First Blood for the first time and enjoyed them both.

I was really bad at spelling as a kid and because of my age group I never studied grammar I thus never got onto studying punctuation either. It was only a few years ago when I started to teach myself Italian that I discovered proper tenses and the like.

I AM quite serious about being an atheist but I'm willing to listen to other points of view and I DO laugh about it. There are some things in my mind that still sit in the box labelled 'beliefs'. String theory for one is something that I don't 'believe' in. but if you were to show me overwhelming evidence to the contrary of what I believe then I would likely re-evaluate those beliefs.

You should message me if

I'm happy to talk to people who don't agree with my point of view, in fact sometimes I love it even more.

I prefer if you can type sentences and go light on the txt speak.

My friends are generally quite nerdy, I don't care how they look I'm far more interested in how they converse. I like people who have passion and I have some myself if you are willing to find out.
