My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
You know why I'm really here? It's cause I really like to flip through all the pictures of smiling people. I rate them all really highly.

I'm feeling a need for some new people in my life with whom to talk about group decision making, alternative approaches to networking and problem solving, and other philosophy.

37, finishing another degree, own a business running a giant industrial building where people make things, and am a mix of serious and fun. I am serious about fun, and I take the world more seriously than others - for example, I believe there are solutions to the situations we struggle with, and that I can make a difference in my lifetime.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
This summer:

Papers to publish on
- Network displays in 3d
- Research on Portland Police Stop Data, 2004-2011
- Systemizing Metaphor and Updating the Systems Metaphor

Pirate Mail, from which I take my namesake:
People write letters to strangers, facilitated by myself, and the letters get given away to strangers, to see if they arrive. The addresses are not street addresses, but 'affiliative' addresses, such as:

via Zoo Bomb,
A Portland Bike Activity
Write about: Fun things to do in your city!

Dead Letter
They make things at
Watershed, PDX
A Portland Industrial Building
Write about: Projects people are making!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I used to be white collar - now I have mad white collar and blue collar skills. I can balance the books, write a publication, weld, do carpentry, fix diesels and gas engines, cut with a plasma cutter or oxy-acetyl, cook, bake, crunch numbers or design an effigy.

I have a head full of math and a heart full of art. I believe that, in cases of mutual defection, someone has to go first to create trust. I don't curse at other drivers, I assume that if something needs extra work that I'll be the one who has to put in that work, and that a rising tide lifts all boats. I am not the tide: I am a tide-marker, clanging away in the desolate wastes that the currents underneath have already shifted.

1) Sometimes deadletter, as a project, is at someone's show, so I'm there soliciting letters or putting people on envelopes.
2) About 50% of the time I'm in the shop building things with a group of makers.
3) On a personal expedition to meet new people, find new projects, taking only the pile of envelopes in my back pocket and a few patches.

You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
If you'd like to write letters to other people. If you want to help me spraypaint envelopes. If you want to sit at a table and listen to people talk about their hopes and dreams and write letters to strangers. If you want to carry mail to far lands. If you want to get breakfast or lunch.

I'd like to emphasize the 'new friends' part for all those amazing people that would be great dates if I were single or if you dated people in open relationships - I really need some new people to talk about philosophy with!
