I'm a guy that likes to be physically active and intellectually engaged. I find intelligence, wit, and motivation to be essential criteria in people I really get to know. Teach me something, challenge me, or show me a new way of looking at the world.
For many reasons, I don’t think I fit the stereotypical American male profile, although I do encapsulate much of the geek profile. I enjoy reading science fiction as well as watching sci-fi movies and series. I play Eurostyle board games; especially games with building or economies. You can look up German-style board games on Wikipedia to get an idea what I'm writing about. I think writing code is fun, or maybe I just think the challenge is worthwhile. I’m not a fan of media sports, or cars, or hunting. I’d rather travel to meet people than to rest.
Bicycling through the woods on hot summer days clears my mind; that's where I will be often June-Aug. If I am exploring new trails/roads, I’m even more excited when I find myself in the mountains, I will hike up as far as possible. I guess I am an explorer at heart.
Music is important to me, listening mostly; I wish I could play the piano or guitar, but I my expertise is the clarinet. I thoroughly enjoyed a music theory course in college, and sometimes wish I could compose my own music.
I’m a liberal and pro-socialism. Socialism rocks.
I’m bisexual, most definitely pro-polyamory, possibly demisexual - still looking into that.
I was in an open relationship with metacheerful for five years; we are still best of friends. He’s a terrific guy; I could write much more, but it’s easier to just check his profile on OKC.
I’m silly; at least when I’m happy. I often make strange sounds around my friends. They don’t seem to run away.
I am geeky, shiny, happy, somewhat silly, and desiring teleport
I enjoy all types of food, except those containing animals. So I’m not a picky eater except for the meat avoidance. Favorites include felafel, Thai, Indian, nachos, cheese, and just about anything served by the Chicago Diner.
I have a thing for the following "classic" movies: the Princess Bride, Dune, Time Bandits, Lost in Translation, and War Games (1983). I love the popcorn at movie theaters, so I do see many of the current films as well.
I used to love Nova and other PBS science shows, but now I think they have replaced substance with special effects. I do read, really - but mostly about genetic regulation of cell specific protein expression. I enjoy Science Fiction, some authors I repeated seek out are Arthur C. Clarke, Alistair Reynolds, Keven J. Anderson, and Isaac Asimov.
Board games such as Puerto Rico, Agricola, 51st State, Power Grid, Small World, Wizard, Merchant of Venus, Legendary, and Terra Mystica frequently are part of gatherings with friends.
iPhone (well, shiny Apple products)
Exercise or physical activity
Caffeinated beverages, well, I could go without, but I prefer not to. Coffee is my friend. I like red wine as well.
Good times with friends – difficult to explain, but there are certain social gatherings among people I know that make me feel, this is the best time ever.
I like people, and hope I can add more to my list of friends - with or without benefits. Basically, I am pretty much open to a message from anyone open-minded who believes that natural selection explains evolution.
