My Self-Summary

Describing oneself can be so hard sometimes, because it's hard to fit who you are in a little box. But I'm going to try anyhow. I'm a pretty fun-loving person, brimming with ideas and creativity. I love a good laugh, but I also like to be serious and discuss current events. I have lots of strong opinions and enjoy reading the news and thinking about politics. New ideas are very interesting to me. Like most people, I am an animal lover and I have two cats who make me very happy. I also enjoy getting to travel, even if it's just a day trip. Travel is something I want to make a priority in my life in the coming years. As my dad used to say, life isn't a dress rehearsal, and you only live once! What I’m doing with my life

I'm currently working as a Technical Writer for a local software company, which basically means that I write online help and instruction manuals. It's not very glamorous, but I enjoy it and it gives me a chance to use my English degree, which is really fantastic. In my spare time, I like to read, draw, and paint. I'm getting back into photography, which is another passion in my life. I am constantly taking on new creative projects because they fulfill me in a way few things can. Oh! I also bowl every week in a local league, which is too much fun for words. I'm not very good at it, but it's nice to be able to have fun and laugh at yourself a few times a week.

I’m really good at

Drawing, painting, and photography. I used to do a lot of writing, but it's something that has kind of fallen by the wayside recently. I have been trying to get back into it when I can, but I am interested in so many things that it's difficult to find the time.

The first things people usually notice about me

Most people probably notice my sense of humor. I tend to use it a lot to diffuse awkward situations. It's also a great way to make someone (and me!) comfortable. As far as physical things, I get a lot of compliments on my skin and my hair color.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Favorite music: Death Cab for Cutie (been a fan since 2001), The Decemberists, Sigur Ros, Yo La Tengo, Toad the Wet Sprocket, The Lemonheads, PJ Harvey, Nada Surf, Portishead, David Wilcox, Tori Amos, Pedro the Lion...and many more!

Favorite books: The Bell Jar, Never Let Me Go, Maus, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Through the Looking Glass, Oliver Twist, anything by Agatha Christie, Perry Mason novels, old Nancy Drew books, as well as a lot of current event non-fiction, true crime, and mysteries.

Favorite Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Star Wars (original trilogy), Indiana Jones, Brigit Jones' Diary, Alfred Hitchcock movies, Silence of the Lambs, Thelma and Louse, Alien, Aliens, The Fugitive, Chicago.

Favorite Food: I love Indian food and Thai food, but also have a soft spot in my heart for hot dogs and pizza.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I spend a lot of time thinking about art and photography and what I want to accomplish with both. Sometimes I spend too much time thinking and too little time doing, which is never good.

On a typical Friday night I am

I am usually doing one of three things on a Friday night: either hanging out with friends, doing something around the apartment, or visiting my parents so I can do my laundry as I currently do not own a washer and dryer. It really just depends on the week, I guess.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Hmmm. I don't really have any skeletons in my closet, so I'm not sure that I can think of anything all that private or scandalous at the moment.
