My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Fun Australian guy with brains, charm and a sense of humor.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Neuroscientist by day, dance instructor by night. One of these is true.

I am an Aussie and spent a large part of my 20s in Switzerland doing my PhD where I learned French, drank wine and ate cheese while looking at beautiful mountains and smiling. I arrived in Palo Alto the week before my 30th birthday to work at Stanford and recently got an amazing job where I get paid to do something which couldn’t be done anywhere else on the planet (it involves lasers and mind control…. oooooh so cool).

A nice combination of luck and life choices have made me into an open-minded and happy person that loves the company of others and gets satisfaction in making them happy also.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
1. Parallel parking: I can parallel park in “left side of the road countries” and “right side of the road countries”. I am waiting to get a call to the international space station next.

2. Being an “invisible” tourist: Have you ever seen the Bourne Identity movies where Jason Bourne looks at a street map for 2 seconds, and then does some amazing escape? That’s me! I am awesome navigating foreign lands. I am also quite adept at standing in public buses/metros and staring around at people in a way that seems I understand their language and am therefore not a tourist. That’s a skill right?

3. Talking to strangers: One of the most beautiful things in life is kindness with strangers. Being nice to people that you don’t have to is awesome. The other day I had some great conversation with a guy working at Safeway. I forgot what it was but we couldn’t stop laughing. I really like those random moments and that is what I would like to be remembered for if I get hit by a large bus tomorrow.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Aussie accent (noticed less when I am in Australia). My hair. People always say I look like a lion. People also say I have a cheeky smile. I choose to interpret that as in I have nice cheek structure.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Here I admit that I am not a popular culture guru and I do not know all the cool bands and read heaps of old books. I am “life cultured” though because I have travelled a lot, experienced great things, I meet people easily, can tell stories etc

I suppose if I had to nominate one favorite thing though in life it would be airplane food on transcontinental flights. Airplane food has become so good these days (Emirates, Qantas, Singapore etc not United flights though). I love to unwrap airplane food carefully and eat it slowly with etiquette like I am in a classy restaurant. Yes people look at me like I am a weirdo. For sure its strange but with a couple of glasses of wine and nothing else to do I think its fun.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
- freedom to do what I want when I want
- passport
- sense of humor
- shower baths (see below)
- my wit
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What it would be like to be a dentist.

Most of my thinking is done while having a shower bath. The BEST thing in the world is just sitting in an empty bath tub with a shower head pouring hot water on your chest. Complete relaxation. I couldn’t believe it when I realized a couple of years ago that not everyone does this.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Laughing with my friends somewhere. Dancing on top of random objects. Listening to George Michael “Freedom” with mates while drinking gin and tonic and building those “lets dance and be merry feelings” in our stomach before we head into town. Simple enough.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

Sometimes my phone vibrates when I am in a group of people and I think it’s a message but then I realize its actually a push notification from my favorite zombie game. I always put on a “hmmm” facial expression like a received some important message nevertheless.

I am a very outgoing Aussie guy, but that doesn’t mean I need someone just like me. I appreciate all people, whether that is deep and introspective artistic type or the goofy extroverted volley ball player. Write me if you are interested in meeting for a glass of wine one evening after work in the bay area or San Francisco. If there is chemistry there is chemistry. No one can predict what two person combination makes magic.
