My self-summary Propose an edit

I like to call myself an intellectual metalhead. I think it's pretty 'metal,' not to mention necessary, to think about the world critically, realistically, and individualistically. I find that I tend to interpret art and metal in ways that coincide with my philosophies, which is understandable since philosophy is pretty important to me, particularly Platonic and existential philosophy (I'll include Nietzsche in this category). Kantian metaphysics is pretty cool too.

I tend to define myself in a very existential way as striving for 'greatness' or something like that. My goal in life is to leave a mark on the world such that all later thought and history is thought of as 'post-me' in the same way that Plato or Socrates founded philosophy. I know it sounds conceited, but I figure that it's better to be ambitious and fail than to underestimate one's own ability.

I'm a history major in college and, thus, am obsessed with historical accuracy. I'd like to write screenplays someday that manage to be entertaining without being inaccurate (to the best of my knowledge). I specialize in early medieval history, which interests me because the early medieval period was so chaotic. Also, I became fascinated with Arthurian mythology as a child and have always wanted to learn about the real basis for the myths.

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit

In terms of a career, I'm still a student right now and I probably will be for a while. I'd like to get a Ph.D. and become a Professor of History or Philosophy someday. My goal is to express my philosophical perspective via as many creative outlets as possible. I'd like to write academic papers, novels, short stories, screenplays, as well as lyrics. I also sing in a Power Metal band. We want to write music that is simultaneously accessible, epic, melodic, and challenging. In order to help in that goal I'm taking up guitar.
