I am bright, responsive, and verbal.
My Self-Summary
I'm a recent empty-nester and the uneasy adoptive human of a
guard-trained German shepherd. He needs an alpha and I'm a beta;
more of a challenge than I anticipated... I love beauty, order,
symmetry but right now you wouldn't know it if you peeked in my
windows (though you should not peek in my windows because the dog
will scare us both).
I'm a people person more than a hobbyist and a supporter more than
a player. Hate crowds, HATE them. Of the billion reasons to mix it
up with thousands of our fellows only David Larible at the circus
would tempt me (I think). Politically am leftist, nearly socialist,
though my time goes to very small scale things--my friends, job,
garden. I'm civilized, mostly, not great at fixing my hair;
sometimes it looks good anyway, sometimes it's just hopeless and I
tie it up. I hate to be photographed but will see what I can do to
get a picture here soon.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm teaching psychiatry to medical students. I really, REALLY like
it.
I'm maintaining a front yard cottage garden in the face of some
opposition (and some support) from neighbors--very very hard for me
to tolerate the disapproval but not enough to make me give it
up.
And I'm building a rose arbor, going to the symphony, a Broadway
show series, and parent's weekends at my (two) daughter's colleges.
I’m really good at
Teaching and talking to patients, expressing pleasure and
enthusiasm, supporting things and people I care about.
The first things people usually notice about me
Right now I'm on crutches, the first time for me. I get noticed WAY
too much.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Anything well written--fiction, non-fiction, biography, history,
essays, poetry. Can't stand violence in movies and don't own a TV
(but do get sucked in by it at hotels).
Almost anything with a tune I can follow--especially with
harmonies; operatic solos; big symphonic moments; girl torch
singers; Tammy Wynette: have been told I'm unsophisticated (Nolo
contendere). Have never "gotten" either jazz or rap and much of
both irritates.
Red wine, single malt Scotch, cheese, olives, savory stews, grilled
vegetables, spicy ethnic food.
The six things I could never do without
Coffee in the morning, books by the bed, music when I'm frantic, a
garden to putter in, deciduous trees out the window, friends.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Whether what I said at work was accurate, could have been better,
was a waste of time, was useful, represented the best approach,
etc.
What is/isn't working in my garden, needs to be moved/divided:
whether it would make a difference in my apple trees if I took all
the cedars off my property; what might be a hardy native substitute
for a laburnum walk and whether that would be silly or magnificent
as a driveway. Whether I can stand to become a landlord
again.
Whether a long term relationship is so unlikely that I should
return to casual ones.
On a typical Friday night I am
At a show or concert if there is one; hanging out with the dog and
a good book; crashing to bed early if it's been a hectic week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I really like men, I like company, I like talk, I like sex. I miss
being married.
You should message me if
You like what you've read, you value education (as in personally
have some), you are interested in a potential long term thing.
