My self-summary
I’m a guy, I build things, I fix things and I just realized I’m paraphrasing the sloth from the Ice Age movies. I’m a guy who has seen a LOT of kid movies over the past 20 years, I can wipe a child's nose while changing lanes and I have turned the car around from a trip to the Great Escape. Have you guessed that I have kids.

I’m past most of that now as I have one kid out of the house and two teenagers. I'm still adjusting to the changes caused by this transition but the extra free time is nice.

My work centers around computers and my current hobbies and activities center more around physical activity. Getting in shape has been a big part of my life for the last couple years. I believe I've gotten myself really close to being able to drop "a little extra" down to athletic/fit. I probably could now but I'll err on the side of caution. My pics are a little outdated as I believe I've lost 20-25lbs since they were taken and yes, I'm bragging. Don't get me wrong I'm a geek and I have done and enjoy WOW, Facebook and tweeting. Right now in my life though I'm enjoying more going to the gym with my son or being active outside.
What I’m doing with my life
For work I drive to Albany every day to be a Systems Analyst/Programmer for a State Agency.

Now that the weather is nicer I've started running in the morning rather than going to the gym for cardio and I'm really enjoying it which is a surprise for me. I still hit the gym at night for weights five to six times a week often with my son. I'm enjoying going on bike rides and just finished refurbishing the bike I had from High School.. I enjoy woodworking and woodturning. It's great to pickup a piece of wood and discover what it can be made into on the lathe. Any vacation I go on usually includes some hiking/camping, boating, waterskiing(trying to get back to what I could do as a teenager), fishing and sailing when I can.

I enjoy and am good at just about all parts of home constructon/remodeling (structural, finishing, plumbing and electrical).
I’m really good at
Mentoring & Teaching people, in everything from computer programming/web design to plumbing & construction. The trick to it is to remember that 75% of the time the person coming to you with question already has it 90% answered, they just lack that 10% of confidence.

Knowing what I can and can't fix. There isn't much in a house that I can't fix but when I can't I stop so I can avoid the "Ruh Roo Raggy" moments.

Rigging up contraptions/repairs together with whatever is at hand, it can be computer/networking equipment, meals, scaffolding, car repair to get you to the service station or a rig to safely throw a stove out a 2nd story window.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm quiet, soft spoken with a dry sense of humor and that when I talk to someone I'm interested in my voice changes pitch.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Science fiction and fantasy are big interests of mine in both movies and books. Terry Brooks is my favorite author and the Shannara series is by far my favorite fantasy storyline now that he has linked it up with The Word/Void trilogy. I enjoy stories about how people thrust outside their element handle themselves.

For music I like a variety of genres (rock, country, blues, folk, even some jazz and reggae) from pretty much the sixties on up, it depends on my mood as to what's being piped into my ears. I try to setup my Pandora stations so they focus on the artists you don't hear on the radio a lot.

I haven't ran into too much food that I don't like. My food preferences tend to gravitate to what I'm having the most fun cooking at the current time. When I became the main cook in my life I started out mastering the standard American type dishes, then red & white sauce Italian, southwestern/Mexican style cooking until my kids got sick of it.
Now I'm on to a kick of mixing as much whole foods and veggies into the above dishes without my kids noticing. I've become very adept at slipping spinach and broccoli into just about anything. You cut it up small enough and it can pass as parsley.
Still working on my chili, though a recent batch has been declared too hot by my children and the neighborhood kids who my kids tricked into eating it. When feeding them I've had to go back to the previous recipe.
The six things I could never do without
I'm not sure there are six things... the only items that come to mind right now are my children and friends. Everything else I can figure around a way to live without.

Update: Well tonight what I couldn't do without is a quiet night sky, a crackling fire, sticks to stir and toast marshmallows and finally the ingredients of smores.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to make things work better, how to make people laugh...wondering why people in the capital district consider anything over 10 miles is "too far"
On a typical Friday night I am
It varies, I could be with friends, doing something with my kids or being kid's taxi.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
while I am mostly indestructible my one weakness is my daughters pouty face.

Ok, now for real:

If something in the profile above caught your eye or if you think you can eat that chili I mentioned above.
